Forspoken Dev Merges Into Square Enix

Luminous Productions

Square Enix’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Luminous Productions, will merge completely into its parent’s main development studio. The merger follows the tepid response to its debut solo development project, Forspoken.

In a recently released press release earlier today, Square Enix announced the merger. The move is made to bolster the “competitive prowess” of its development studios. Basically, this change will allow them to improve its ability to create HD games. Its merger will be effective on May 1.

Luminous Productions took to Twitter to assure that this merger won’t change their attention, at least until the merger occurs. They are currently working on patches for Forspoken and its upcoming DLC slated for this summer.

“The merger is part of the Company’s efforts to further bolster the competitive prowess of the Group’s development studios, a goal set forth under its current medium-term business strategy. SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. has developed numerous AAA high-definition (HD) games and possesses a wealth of intellectual property (IP) and content. Luminous Productions Co., Ltd. is meanwhile equipped not only with AAA title development capabilities but also technical expertise in areas such as game engine development. Combining the two entities will further enhance the Group’s ability to develop HD games.”

Forspoken Faces Autocorrect Woes

Forspoken

Forspoken is having a bit of a hard time right now. Not only did the game’s recent cinematic trailer face lukewarm reception, but even those searching for the game may have trouble finding it, especially if they’re reliant on autocorrect.

As reported by PSLS, spikes in people searching for “forsaken game” are on the rise when odds are people aren’t looking for the 1998 Acclaim Entertainment FPS or last year’s indie strategy RPG found on Steam. It’s even more noticable as the report points out that related queries include “forsaken ps5.” It’s worth noting that nothing of a remake, remaster, reboot, or sequel has been murmured about the Acclaim title.

It’s likely that either people are not sure how to spell the Square Enix and Luminous Productions PS5 exclusive or autocorrect is having a coniption, changing Forspoken to the “correct” title.

Whatever the case may be, this is just a silly little hiccup that will probably fizzle out as the game launches on January 24.

PS5 Console Exclusive Forspoken Takes Up Over 85GB

Forspoken

The upcoming PS5 console exclusive Forspoken is releasing in the coming weeks and now fans get an insight into just how big the game will eat up storage. Modern gamers should be used to ambitious AAA games eating up storage by now, though.

According to PlayStation Game Size, the title will eat up 87.275GB of storage. This is a fair amount, but with this generation, we can expect plenty of games to gobble up storage like there’s no tomorrow. Odds are there will also be a Day One patch and it’s hard to tell if that’s adding much to the existing size or not.

Forspoken has found an audience, but not quite an audience that expects to see it succeed. Following Luminous Productions delaying the ambitious adventure title into this year, its cinematic trailer released earlier this month received a lackluster response.

Sadly, it doesn’t help that Square Enix, which is publishing it, has found little success during this current-gen outside of Final Fantasy.

Square Enix Stamps Out Forspoken Microtransactions Rumor

Forspoken

For quite some time, it was rumored that Square Enix and Luminous Productions were going to implement microtransactions into its upcoming PS5 console exclusive action RPG, Forspoken. The very mention of that idea didn’t sit well with people, but as it turns out, it’s all a big misunderstanding and how the ESRB rates games.

Over the last week, the rumor began spiraling out of control thanks to the ESRB’s rating making note of “in-game purchases.” This whole debacle, however, has been resolved thanks to a statement found in issue 344 of Game Informer (via PSLS) where it explicitly refutes the microtransaction rumor. The reason behind this mix up is all on the ESRB and how the “in-game purchases” label is plastered on games that plan on housing DLC.

It’s already confirmed that Forspoken is going to have some DLC like a prequel story, In Tanta We Trust, which is due out sometime in winter.

If all goes according to plan and the rumor of a delay if Final Fantasy 16 is ready to go this year isn’t true, then Forspoken will be out in the world on October 11.

PS5 Console Exclusive, Forspoken, Delayed

Forspoken

Luminous Productions’ upcoming PS5 exclusive, Forspoken, has been delayed until later this year under the plans to further polish the game. According to the developer, making the game just right is very important to them and they want gamers to enjoy the title for years to come.

Announced in mid-2020, Forspoken is the debut game for the studio who’s only other project was working on Final Fantasy XV, which makes sense considering the studio’s formed mostly of developers working on the fantasy title and Square Enix peeps.

Supposedly, the game is earmarked as a PS5 console exclusive for two years, offering the player “a narrative-driven adventure set in a beautiful yet cruel world.” Players can now experience this adventure when it hits digital stores on October 11.

Forspoken Aims To Offer The Highest Quality Visuals In Any Open World Game

FOrspoken

Forspoken, Square Enix and Luminous Productions’ PS5 exclusive, is aiming high with the goal to offer the highest quality visuals in any open world game.

Luminous Productions boss, Takeshi Aramaki, touched on this during an AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution tech event, in which he explained their goals for the game how AMD’s tech is helping them reach the goals they’ve set.

The studio boss claims that the FidelityFX Super Resolution technology offered a fair boost to the game’s performance when running it at 4K at 60FPS.

FidelityFX Super Resolution technology, to simply its purpose, utilizes machine learning to reconstruct images of a lower resolution and output them more clearly as a higher resolution, making games running at 4K less taxing and giving devs more freedom to make larger and more complex worlds.
