Deviation Games Closes Its Doors

Deviation Games

Spearheaded by two ex-Call of Duty developers in 2020, Deviation Games hadn’t even released its debut title before closing its doors. The writing was on the wall, to be fair.

Chief HR and operations officer, Kriste Stull, took to LinkedIn to share the disheartening news. Since partnering with Sony back in 2021, with the promise of full financial security and over 100 staffers at the time, and was working on a PlayStation exclusive shooter. On top of the large hiring pool, there was that whole PlayStation layoff thing that could’ve easily played a part in the studio’s sudden closure.

Back in September 2022, though, co-founder, Jason Blundell, left the studio, which understandably raised red flags in the minds of fans.

Hogwarts Legacy Tops Modern Warfare 3 In PS Downloads

Hogwarts Legacy

Avalanche Software continues to get passed wins, as its Wizarding World RPG, Hogwarts Legacy has apparently beaten out Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as the best-selling game in the US in 2023. The game did see a dip in December, finding itself in fourth place.

Directly from the horse’s mouth, PlayStation offered up a list of the top downloads of 2023 on the Blog, showcasing an interesting development. Usually, the latest Call of Duty or a Rockstar game comes out on top, but 2023 was different, with all the varying games, it may come as a small surprise that Hogwarts Legacy managed to secure the top download spot on PS5 in North America. In the EU, it was only beaten by EA Spots FC 24.

The biggest win that Modern Warfare 3 saw was securing the top spot on PS4 in the NA region, but in the EU, it failed to even break into the top 10.

What do you think? Is it a breath of fresh air to see a game that isn’t COD dominate the PS downloads? Let us know below!

Call Of Duty 2024 Will Be Black Ops During Gulf War

Call of Duty

The next Call of Duty, which is in development at Treyarch, is going to feature the Black Ops branding. Considering Black Ops games are often more well-liked by fans, this was probably the best move on Activision’s part following the blunders with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Windows Central (thanks, Xbox Nerds) reports that the next COD will use the early 90s Gulf War as its backdrop and focus on the CIA and its role in the conflict. It will also pull the reigns back with more era-accurate firearms as opposed to the stuff we got during Modern Warfare and other more recent entries.

Considering this follows Modern Warfare 3 as the next Call of Duty, it will certainly have a bit of cleanup to do, but with Treyarch at the helm and its golden child Black Ops brand front and center, we’re sure it’ll probably at least end up with better fanfare than Sledgehammer Games’ short-campaigned COD entry.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III Offers Short Campaign

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

The latest entry in the yearly Call of Duty lineup — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III — isn’t fostering great reception, as the game features a really short single-player campaign. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War previously had the shortest campaign at around five and half hours.

Early players were lamenting (via Xbox Nerds) how the single-player campaign clocks in at only around three to four hours. Others criticized the writing as lackluster, even compared to other entries in the series.

That said, its short story can be attributed to the fact it started life originally as a Modern Warfare II DLC, but in the end, that doesn’t excuse the issues players have outright. Sure, very few people actually buy the yearly COD release for the story, but it’s still an offering from a powerhouse studio that’s decided to foster this franchise as its golden child.

Modern Warfare 3 PlayStation Exclusive Content Revealed

As Activision Blizzard marches ever closer into the arms of Microsoft, Sony and the developer have revealed new PlayStation exclusive content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This could be the last exclusive content PlayStation fans get as it’s possible the deal will close next week.

Activision Blizzard and PlayStation unveiled Modern Warfare 3 will feature content exclusive to the PS4 and PS5. The DLC will include the Van Goated Lockpick Operator Skin, the AMRican Gothic Weapon Blueprint, and Starry Knife Melee Weapon Blueprint.

Over the years, Sony and COD have had a marketing partnership, but with Microsoft taking control, that partnership will no doubt fold. In fact, the Operator itself will make it to other platforms next year.
