Beyond Good And Evil Coming To PS4, PS5

Beyond Good and Evil PS5

PS2-era action-adventure, Beyond Good and Evil, looks like its making its way to current and previous-gen hardware. This would make the first we’ve seen of the original since its HD version in 2011 for the PS3.

X user MACOS380 spotted an ESRB rating for Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. PSX Extreme was able to find the listing on the official website. From the looks of it, it’ll be rated E10+.

It seems like we’ll see a remake or remaster of the original Beyond Good and Evil before we see its actual sequel, which was teased in 2008 before being revealed in 2017. Now, though, it’s stuck in Development Hell and has gone on to set a new record of over 15 years in the development phase. Hopefully releasing the original will bring a new wave of interest to the sequel and encourage Ubisoft to push the game forward… hopefully in the right direction.

Beyond Good And Evil 2 Sheds Managing Director Amid Labor Investigation

Beyond Good and Evil 2

Ubisoft Montpellier is facing another shakeup as the studio sheds Beyond Good and Evil 2’s managing director amid a labor investigation. A large portion of its developers are facing burnout and going through their sick leave, leading to the investigation.

Kotaku reports that the Inspection du Travail has opened an investigation into the Montpellier-based studio based on the unprecedented dozens of burnout and sick leave staff levels. It was also revealed that Ubi vet, Guillaume Carmona, the managing director, would be leaving the company for an undisclosed reason.

This isn’t the first time the Beyond Good and Evil 2 developer faced a labor investigation. Last December, it faced another large number of staff taking time off, and while some came back to the studio, others left, sparking a check-in by the authorities.

It’s worth noting that the project has had a recent shakeup that saw senior creative director Jean-Marc Geffroy off the project and the promotion of Emile Morel, who served as the game’s associate director. Charles Gaudron became its new game director after Benjamin Dumaz left Ubisoft after 14 years to join the indie game studio, Build A Rocket Boy.

It doesn’t quite make much difference as Kotaku’s sources retain that the team still can’t figure out what to do with BG&E2 as it beats out Duke Nukem Forever’s Development Hell record last year.

Beyond Good And Evil 2 Now In “Early Development”

Beyond Good and Evil 2

Despite constant reassurances from Ubisoft, Beyond Good and Evil 2 appears to be encroaching on vaporware territory. The game has been in Development Hell for the last 15 years and there’s still no signs of its release on the horizon.

A report has surfaced from Insider Gaming that points to the game being in early development. Per insiders, it sounds like the game was rebuilt and no longer is using the style the 2018 pre-alpha build showed. Pictures shared to the outlet confirmed the game was using low-quality assets during its latest round of playtesting over the course of the summer.

If 15 years sounds like a long time, that’s because it is. As of this year, Beyond Good and Evil 2 overtook Duke Nukem Forever as the long in-development game. It also shows a twinge of Agent, which was revealed by Rockstar Games, but nothing’s come since. We can assume that game’s been canned even if Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that as the case.

It’s hard to come to that conclusion in Ubisoft’s case since they assure fans and investors that progression is being made in its development. At this point, they need to remake the original for new fans to see… but please finish the new one before getting sidetracked.

First Gameplay of Beyond Good and Evil 2, Sort of

If you missed it, Ubisoft had one of the more memorable announcements at their E3 conference with announcement (re-announcement?) of Beyond Good and Evil 2 . The first game came out back in 2003 and quickly became a cult classic. Fans have had teases off and on over the years and have been clamoring for a sequel. Myself included. It’s finally happening and we got a little taste of what’s to come.

Later on at E3, series Director Michel Ancel sat down with Gamespot to show off some of the in game assets. While this is in game footage, it isn’t really gameplay persay. Ansel was just showing some of the aspects with the character and the ships.

He also talks about the scale of the game which is quite huge. There is even what seems like a bit of a jab at No Man’s Sky when he talks about there being life on other planets. Yup, we’ll be able to go to other planets as well. Check it out if you have a few extra minutes.
