Beyond Good & Evil 2 “Targeting Next Generation”

In that Beyond Good & Evil 2 teaser trailer we saw a long ways back, the characters were just sort of sitting around. …now we know why.

They're just sitting there because they won't have to be doing anything any time soon. Despite Ubisoft's insistence that the game is still in development, it appears we won't be seeing the long-anticipated sequel this year, next year…or even the year after that. According to GamesIndustry.biz , designer Michel Ancel confirmed the project was still in the works, but sadly, it will miss this generation:

"It is still alive and we are very far [into] development so we can't go back now. We are targeting the next generation of consoles."

So there's a reason why we haven't heard anything concrete between the unveiling at Ubidays 2008 and now. It turns out that Ancel and Co. are currently cranking away on the new Rayman installment, which apparently requires an all-new engine and tools. Well, damn. And we thought if enough people downloaded the high-definition remake of Beyond Good & Evil , the sequel would happen sooner.
