PlayStation Toys With User Reviews

Helldivers 2

Looks like PlayStation is looking to introduce user reviews after adding a star function to the PlayStation Store. Currently, it’s only available for a handful of games.

A user on the PlayStation subreddit noticed they were sent an email and prompted to write a review. These reviews are not public yet. The Gamer was able to confirm the matter. PSX Extreme hasn’t received any sort of email, indicating that not only is it only a handful of games, but likely limited to select users, as well.

Odds are Sony is testing the water to see how many gamers will fill out a written review before integrating it fully into the experience.

What do you think? Are you more likely to get a game if user reviews on PlayStation are positive? Let us know below!

PSN Down On PS3

PSN ID

The PlayStation Network is down… for PS3 users. Naturally, this leaves some worried that it may never come back online. We highly doubt that Sony would just pull the plug on the service without any notice, though, at the same time, the hardware has been only begrudgingly maintained for some time.

The PS3 subreddit has been flooded with people sharing their error codes about logging into PSN on their legacy hardware. Of course, we can’t make new accounts on PS3 anymore, but we at least expect to be able to login, but at least for the moment, that seems to be unavailable.

While it’s unlikely that Sony is pulling the plug on PS3, hoping no one would notice, they did want to drop PlayStation Store support back in 2021, but backtracked due to heavy backlash. What’s more likely is this is just a glitch and it will eventually be resolved.

So far, Sony hasn’t addressed the error publicly.

What do you think? Is PSN coming back for PS3 or is it so low on the priorities list that it won’t? Let us know below!

Ghost Of Tsushima Will Not Require PSN On PC For Single Player

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima is heading to PC and thanks to the whole Helldivers 2 debacle, some are understandably concerned that it will require a PlayStation Network account to play. Turns out fans won’t need to worry about that if they’re just looking to play single player.

Developer Sucker Punch Productions responded to a heated tweet about canceling their pre-order after seeing that it will require linking their Steam profile to PSN. Apparently, the use for this is solely reliant on if you’re going to play its multiplayer Legends mode and the PS overlay.

While the decision was reversed at the last minute, it’s understandable that PC fans are still soured from the experience and while some may pre-order future PlayStation-owned PC releases, it might be a little bit of a struggle.

What do you think? Are you getting Ghost of Tsushima on PC or are you PlayStation all the way? Let us know below!

Helldivers 2 To Require PSN To Play On PC

Arrowhead Game Studio’s smash-hit Sony-published shooter, Helldivers 2 isn’t having a great end of the week as Sony will soon force players to link their PSN to their Steam if they want to keep playing the game. This was a planned requirement at launch, but it was removed due to “technical difficulties.”

Announced on Steam, the game would be requiring existing players connect a PSN to their Steam profile by June 4, with screens more present starting on May 30. It’s led to a huge amount of backlash, ranging from those who simply don’t want a PSN because they bought it on Steam or those who literally can’t because it’s not supported in their region, which is a fair concern.

It’s worth pointing out this isn’t Arrowhead’s fault, but rather its publisher, Sony, pulling the strings here. The studio’s CEO even notes the massive onslaught of negative reviews as “warranted” on Twitter, While some of its mods are being rather snide to the community, it does seem like it’s more tongue-and-cheek rather than serious animosity and they do really care to make sure its community is as large as can be.

Based on some messages on Discord, such as one from Twinbeard, Arrowhead is chasing Sony for more info on region related stuff, likely to ensure those who bought the game can still play it even if they live in a country where PSN doesn’t exist, which might we add isn’t an insignificant part of the world, with the service only operational in 73 countries.

Meanwhile, its supports tend to lean on the fact games like Minecraft need a Microsoft account, Ubisoft games need a Ubi account, Bethesda games need Bethesda accounts, etc. even if purchased on Steam.

What do you think? Are PC gamers overblowing the situation since other games need third-party accounts, too? Let us know below!

Introducing PlayStation’s Passkey

Looks like Sony is giving fans a passwordless sign-in option for the PlayStation Network with its latest service, Passkey. This optional sign-in feature is touted as more secure.

According to the Passkey official website, it’s a “faster, easier, and more secure sign-in to your account for PlayStation Network.” Instead of using a password to access your library, you can sign in through a trusted mobile device or computer via methods such as fingerprint or face scanning or a PIN.

Instructions on how to setup Passkey seem fairly straight forward if you’ve ever set up alternative login methods. You can connect your Passkey to as many systems as you see fit, meaning if you lose — say — your phone, you can just hop on your computer and login that way.

Unfortunately, though, legacy devices such as the Vita and PS3 do not have Passkey support, so you’d still need to sign-in through the device itself.

What do you think? Does Passkey strike your cybersecurity fancy? Let us know below!

PlayStation Home Was “10-15 Years Ahead Of Its Time,” Sony Boss Declares

PlayStation Home

Sony bigwig Jim Ryan brings up PlayStation Home as being “10-15 years ahead of its time,” as metaverse becomes the next big thing. If you were around during the height of the PS3 era, you no doubt came across this 3D online social hub full of minigames and a dedicated community.

The rare comment wasn’t from an official statement or anything, but rather, it stemmed from the ongoing Microsoft-Activision vs. FTC legal dispute (via PSLS). Apparently, a Q&A with investors at Fidelity asked about metaverse plans and PlayStation Home came up as an early form of the concept that was “10-15 years ahead of its time.”

Ryan noted that Sony has multiple projects in the works and that it sees great potential in metaverse as a concept. The investors also specifically asked about PSVR 2 and its future in the space, this prompted him to note that it does have a future in the space “down the road.”
