Tomb Raider I-III Remastered PS5 Version Lacks A Platinum Trophy

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered boasts a lot of trophies — over 200 — but yet apparently one version will lack the coveted Platinum Trophy. At this time, it isn’t clear why that’s the case or if the Xbox Series X|S version will have similar issues with its Achievements.

As reported by Insider Gaming, which got a hold of its trophy list, the game, which releases next week, currently lacks a Platinum Trophies for the current-gen version. Apparently, the PS4 hasn’t omitted them, though.

A ResetEra user proposed a possible reason, that being due to some changes made to how collection Trophies work on the PS5. User madbuk pointed to Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves as a point. We’ll take this as a possibility, but will absolutely wait until official confirmation.

“You can see this with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves – because it’s all one launcher, Lost Legacy trophies had to be added in as a DLC pack and only Uncharted 4 had a Platinum…”

What do you think? Does the lack of a PS5 Plat disappoint you? Let us know below!

Unobtainable Far Cry 4 Multiplayer Trophy Halts Players From Getting Platinum

Far Cry 4

Since May, Renaissance Man, a multiplayer-tethered Trophy in Far Cry 4, has been deemed unobtainable by the community,  and as such means Platinum is just out of reach. To get it, players must “finish a public match of each game type in the Battles of Kyrat game mode.” Several people have contacted Ubisoft, pleading for the developer to fix the troubled Trophy.

While Ubi doesn’t seem to be showing signs of pulling the plug on its multiplayer, it’s possible it’ll get a soft wind down. Users on PSNProfiles have shared the mixed responses they’ve received, with at least one rep telling the user it’s working on a fix while another informed the user Farn Cry 4’s out of support and likely won’t get a patch.

PSX Extreme has contacted Ubisoft and will update the article once we receive a response.

Petition Wants Sony To Axe Multiplayer Trophies From Platinum

Multiplayer Trophies

A petition is making the rounds — because we all know how successful those can be — urging PlayStation to axe the multiplayer trophies in order to earn Platinum.

Games that feature multiplayer trophies are always a ticking timebomb as you never actually know when the servers will shut down, making earning Platinum impossible. Outside of that reason, though, the Change.org petition (via PSLS) argues that it’s unethical as Sony effectively blocks Plat status behind a paywall. Much like other consoles, you need to pay for some sort of PlayStation Plus subscription in order to play with friends.

The petition is mostly targeting games that only tack on multiplayer for no reason, games like Call of Duty or Battlefield are — for the most part — best enjoyed with friends online, but games like Uncharted or The Last of Us just cobbled together a multiplayer mode. Uncharted 1 and 2’s PS3 multiplayer servers shuttered in recent years.

There’s a commendableness to the petition wanting to see PlayStation axing multiplayer trophies, especially since odds are the petition — like many others — will fall on deaf ears, if it even reaches the ears at all. At least they aren’t calling for the culling of multiplayer trophies, only wanting them to be in a “parallel way” so if servers shutter you can still earn that highest-honor trophy.

The biggest argument we could think of would be games like Gotham Knights, which can be played either way, while it may be more fun with friends, it doesn’t take away anything by playing it alone, you go through the same story beats.

Returnal Trophy List Spells Kinda Easy Platinum

Returnal

Housemarque‘s PS5 exclusive, Returnal, like any other game on consoles, has a trophy list. Also like many other games, said trophy list has a lot that appear to be tied to the story.

The list, which is available to view on Exophase, has a fair few Bronze trophies that are simply easy grabs. These trophies mostly appear to be tied to activities you’d otherwise do in-game anyway, such as defeating an enemy or dying for the first time.

Examples of Silver trophies are finishing Act 1 and Act 2 and completing all House Sequences. Gold trophies include finishing Act 3 and conducting full surveys of different areas.

The game is divided into 30 non-Platinum trophies with 18 Bronze, five Silver, and seven Gold. Sure, the Gold trophies sound tougher, hence its standing, but they all sound pretty doable and probably something taught in the tutorial mission.

Needless to say, Returnal is probably going to be an easier Platinum for all those trophy hunters out there.

Kojima “Personally Chose” Platinum For Revengeance

We got the official press release for The Last Of Us hours after the game blew everyone away at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. That was cool.

We had to wait a little longer for the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance press release, but it's finally here. And it might help to quell the rising controversy and skepticism.

Konami Digital Entertainment and Platinum Games will indeed produce the renamed action game; specifically, the Kojima team handled the story and managed the cut-scenes and voice performances, and Metal Gear Solid veteran artist Yoji Shinkawa created the character designs. In fact, to learn more about the behind-the-scenes project, be sure to check out a special documentary piece at the MGS official site . It'll air today at 5:00 p.m. PST.

For the record, Hideo Kojima "personally chose" Platinum Games, and another MGS veteran, Yuji Korekado, has been tasked with overseeing the project. Kojima will be the executive producer. And yes, it's true, a decision was made at some point to make the game "a more action-oriented title" than what was previously planned. The press release says the project was "subtly" re-branded to reflect that change (the dropping of the "Solid" from the title and the "Revengeance" part).

Here's the game's description from the press release:

"Raiden is armed with a High Frequency katana blade which he uses to cut through anything that stands in his way. The three-minute trailer shows Raiden’s incredible level of power and control as he cuts through enemies and various obstacles alike using high-speed combination attacks, and using free-running skills to bypass groups of adversaries to give him a strategic advantage and catch them off-guard. As the game progresses, Raiden’s physical prowess is increasingly called upon and tested, with huge enemies appearing that require specific tactics to disable."

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will launch for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but there is no estimated release date for the time being.

“Secret” Vanquish Gameplay Exudes Maximum Style

So the Insonmniac guys just loved Vanquish at E3; they called it "Gears of War on crack."

We did get some gameplay via floor camera – which you can see in the article linked above – but although shorter, this new "secret movie" that recently popped up on YouTube is even more impressive. Because the player isn't fighting a boss and there are multiple enemies and multiple vantage points, we can better understand Insomniac's comments now. …this is pretty crazy. You've got the fast sliding, the slow-mo effects, and what we're hoping will be a rock-solid frame rate to go along with the insane action.

We get the sneaking suspicion that the sliding mechanic could potentially pose problems in certain situations, either with the camera or collision detection concerning cover points and/or allies, but maybe we don't have to worry. The game is looking better and better and above all else, we really want a demo. Like, soon.
