Marvel’s Avengers Halts Content Support In September

Marvel's Avengers

Crystal Dynamics is putting a halt Marvel’s Avengers’ content support later this year. The game was being supported with new content and updates for two and half years.

The decision was made by the developers alongside its partners, according to its blog. You will still be able to play the game’s multiplayer and single-player for the foreseeable future, but Crystal Dynamics makes no promise how long you will be able to after content support ends in September.

Credits will no longer be purchasable come March 31 and all existing credits will be turned into in-game resources. Provided you own the game ahead of March 31, they are also thanking the community by making all Shipment cosmetics, Challenge Cards, and Marketplace content free for existing users. This means all outfits, nameplates, takedowns, and emotes will be accessible.

As part of its content support ending, once September 30 rolls around, Crystal Dynamics will be de-listing Marvel’s Avengers from all digital marketplaces, not allowing people from purchasing the game without hoping to find it on store shelves while supplies last.

Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man DLC Launches Soon

Spider-Man, Marvel's Avengers

We knew that everyone’s favorite web-slinger would join the fight in Marvel’s Avengers sometime this year even after the delay back in March. Now, it’s closer than expected, but also makes sense with how close we are to the end of the year.

Marvel dropped a brand-new trailer displaying Spidey in all his glory fending off some baddies and eventually getting the help of the Avengers. The web-slinger was first announced as a DLC character back in early August 2020 exclusively for the PlayStation.

This news comes not long after Square Enix placed Marvel’s Avengers’ lackluster performance squarely in the hands of Crystal Dynamics, which, at the time, didn’t have any chops in the games as a service model.

Fans can expect to play as Spider-Man starting on November 30.

Square Enix Blames Crystal Dynamics For Marvel’s Avengers Flop

Marvel's Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers is a flop for Square Enix despite various attempts to improve the game. During Square Enix’s annual performance report, studio president Yosuke Matsuda spoke to shareholders, assuring them they’ve learned from the game as a service title’s mistake.

During the report, Matsuda implied that Crystal Dynamics wasn’t the right studio for the job thanks to their lack of GaaS experience.

“Nonetheless, taking on the GaaS model highlighted issues that we are likely to face in future game development efforts such as the need to select game designs that mesh with the unique attributes and tastes of our studios and development teams.”

Not that long ago, in 2019, Matsuda himself had high hopes for Marvel’s Avengers because of the studio’s storied past with the action-adventure space.

Crystal Dynamics Insists We Will See Spider-Man By End Of Year

Marvel’s Avengers had a troubled launch last year that resulted in developer Crystal Dynamics pushing back several planned DLC. Of these releases was the PS5 exclusive Spider-Man character which was then slated for an “early 2021” release instead. Marvel’s Avengers senior game designer Scott Walters insists that the DLC will still be available this year.

“In terms of what we can say now, we’ve always scheduled and looked to bring Spider-Man out in 2021 for PlayStation owners. That is still on track, so we’ll have more announcements later on this year.”

However, the statement is shrouded in mystery as there is still no official date for those announcements. The game is currently celebrating the release of the new Black Panther – War for Wakanda expansion while we wait.

Marvel’s Avengers To Let Everyone Be The Same Hero

Marvel's Avengers

Chaos ensues as Marvel’s Avengers is raring up to conduct its next update. Among other things, Square Enix revealed they’re permanently turning on the ability to have the same hero during matchmaking.

“Due to your feedback, we’re permanently turning on the ability to play multiple of the same Hero during matchmaking and when forming Strike Teams. Tachyon energy in the world has reached a level where Hero selection is always similar to the Tachyon Anomaly Event. We’ll have more information about these features later in July!”

This latest update is also the source of Marvel Cinematic Universe-inspired costumes as well as Omega-Level Threat: Family Reunion. According to Square Enix, this content is set to be the toughest they’ve ever put out there for Marvel’s Avengers.
