Bloodborne Garners New Fans, Ticks Off Dark Souls Followers?

I'm not as dialed in to the From Software culture so this isn't a statement; it's a legitimate question:

Based on some of the rumblings I've heard, it seems like Bloodborne has won over a lot of gamers who weren't fans of the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls titles. While on the flip side, hardcore followers of the aforementioned games aren't quite as pleased. In fact, some are just downright annoyed.

Is this an accurate assessment of the culture? And if so, why has this happened? My guess is that Bloodborne certainly seems faster and more geared toward action; perhaps the core Dark Souls fans could say it's less of an RPG. I admit, I think it takes more dexterity and reflexes to deal with Bloodborne , while From Software's previous games perhaps required more strategy and planning.

But that's only speaking from a novice perspective. I have friends who swear this is the case, but others who loved Dark Souls and are definitely loving Bloodborne . What camp are you in?

Dark Souls II PS4 Manages To Max Out At 1080p/60fps

If you missed out on one of last year's best games, you'll get another chance.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin will release on April 7 and as revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , it'll be a graphical powerhouse.

The PlayStation 4 iteration will put out 1080p HD resolution at 60 frames per second, which is a big upgrade from the 720p/30fps numbers in the PS3 version. We don't know yet if the Xbox One version of Scholar of the First Sin will also hit 1080p/60fps but don't be surprised if it doesn't; Xbox One counterparts haven't been matching up in this category so far this generation.

Also, the new version will boast gameplay adjustments, as the locations of some enemies and items have changed. Foes will also follow you "more tenaciously," even through fog gates, which could be a serious problem for the rash adventurer.

The updated edition arrives on April 7 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Speedrunner Breaks His Own Dark Souls Record: 49:55

So, have you managed to beat Dark Souls yet?

While normal people struggle to just complete the game, regardless of hours spent, speedrunners are still trying to whittle their times down.

For instance, speedrunner Kahmul78 previously managed to take down the infamously difficult game in just over 50 minutes. Now, however, he's found a way to break the 50-minute mark, coming at 49:55 . Yep, a new strategy shaved off 35 seconds and his only response is: "This record will be beaten very soon." As far as anyone knows, this is the world record for the fastest Dark Souls speedrun.

C'mon, you know you want to challenge it.

Dark Souls II Finished In Less Than 1 Hour

So, how long did it take you to complete Dark Souls II ?

If it was more than an hour, speed-runner Allakazzaror has you beat. He has set a new world record for the game and you can check it out below. You can also read his comments on Reddit .

Bear in mind that he managed to make this happen without any glitches. Prior to the record-setting run, there were people who posted completion times of 1 hour, 17 minutes, but they took advantage of glitches. It's too bad that Twitch cut off the last four minutes of audio but hey, at least the record-setting number has been officially recorded. This is just one of those things that most sane people wouldn't even want to attempt .

It's pretty sick:

Dark Souls II Might Be Next-Gen-Bound

Is another current-gen game going next-gen?

Popular titles released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are making their way to the new consoles; games like The Last Of Us and Grand Theft Auto V . Can we add Dark Souls II to the list?

A tipster has sent us a link to Tesco.com and as you can see, they're listing an Xbox One version of the well-received RPG. It's feasible that the publishers would like to tap into the expanding next-gen market, although this is hardly official. Personally, I'd rather wait for Bloodborne than play Dark Souls II on the PS4 but I might be in the minority on that.

The question is, do you want to see DSII on the PS4 and Xbox One? Would you buy it again if you already owned it for the PS3 or 360? If you haven't played the game yet, would you be more interested in playing it on a next-gen platform?

Dark Souls II The Lost Crowns Trilogy Rolling Out This Summer

Gee, I thought there wasn't supposed to be any downloadable content for this game.

From Software producer Takeshi Miyazoe made headlines by saying there would be no DLC for Dark Souls II because the team wanted to "deliver a full game, the full experience, to fans who purchase the package on day one."

Ah, but you can't ignore the lure of extra income, right? Bandai Namco has announced that the challenging experience will indeed expand this summer thanks to three new DLC chapters. This will be called The Lost Crowns Trilogy and the first, entitled Crown of the Sunken King, will be ready to go on July 22 in North America. Players will have to recover King Vendrick's crowns and presents players with "an entirely different world within the Dark Souls II universe, where stepped pyramids span a vast underground cavern."

The second DLC, called Crown of the Old Iron King, is set for August 26. The final chapter, Crown of the Ivory King, will arrive on September 24. All DLC packages will be available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and they'll be $10 apiece. A Season Pass ($25) will grant you access to all three chapters, but this option is only available to PC players.

Oh, come on. You're not really disappointed at the prospect of more DSII content, are you?
