I'm not as dialed in to the From Software culture so this isn't a statement; it's a legitimate question:
Based on some of the rumblings I've heard, it seems like Bloodborne has won over a lot of gamers who weren't fans of the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls titles. While on the flip side, hardcore followers of the aforementioned games aren't quite as pleased. In fact, some are just downright annoyed.
Is this an accurate assessment of the culture? And if so, why has this happened? My guess is that Bloodborne certainly seems faster and more geared toward action; perhaps the core Dark Souls fans could say it's less of an RPG. I admit, I think it takes more dexterity and reflexes to deal with Bloodborne , while From Software's previous games perhaps required more strategy and planning.
But that's only speaking from a novice perspective. I have friends who swear this is the case, but others who loved Dark Souls and are definitely loving Bloodborne . What camp are you in?
Related Game(s): Bloodborne
It's all the same to me, they excel in making what should be simple a difficult task. To reinvent that every time you launch a new IP brings change abruptlty as you make different things difficult for different reasons.
Have you ever encountered a game or issue in the gaming community that gamers didn't complain about? Human nature being what it is, there are people who could fall into a cesspool and come out with a gold Rolex in each hand and complain that they were last year's version.
So true, people love to indulge their indignation. Its not just with video games, these people approach everything with the same amount of cynicism and they're super annoying.
The common thing I'm hearing is "if you like the souls games, you'll love Bloodborne".
I love Dark Souls, and I love Bloodborne, in fact I just got one of the endings.
I think the only fans who are upset with Bloodborne are ones who don't think it is hard enough. But when you are used to the gameplay that these games offer you start to expect what to do and it becomes less challenging over all.
I personally am loving Bloodborne, I think the challenge is nice although it isn't as hard as Dark or Demons souls, it is harder if you don't use all the tools at your disposal. It was easy once you knew the best builds in the other souls games to just like 3 shot bosses.
I also played Demons Souls before it was out in NA, and there was less of an online community and less wikis so I was on my own which made the game way way harder.
My only complaint about Bloodborne so far is that I wish there was more armor variety because I like to play barbie doll with my character.
Also a few more weapons would have been nice, although I do love that pretty much every weapon is viable in this game, and has a use, although you will generally want to have a weapon to use against crowds and a good weapon for big boss type enemies.
If you want more of a challenge just keep adding insight. Over level 15 insight is supposedly where its noticeable. Level 22 is what my insight was at when I noticed enemies changing things up. Ended up beating it tonight with 54 insight. Definitely changes it up.
Not enough armor ? I got 14 ( 2 more left to buy ) and i m about half way .From the wiki it seem like i could get about 6 more . How many is " enough " for you ? Perhaps its because you think some look too much alike ?
Also , more weapon would only mean more weapon you would nt use or just simply being useless ( whips… ) .
There aren't that many armor sets, and yes a lot of them look very similar to another. There are 2 versions of the hunters coat, yarnham hunter coat, and they look pretty similar.
I would have liked more weird steam punk head pieces, and some more Victorian style plate armor.
I have the Cainhurst armor and it looks pretty cool but I dont know I think I was spoiled with Dark Souls 2, that game had so many cool armor set designs.
I don't know I just think there could have been 1 or 2 more weapons.
What I'm hearing is "Wow!!1!!1 FROMsoftware sold out and are in bed with Sony! This game could befint from xbox one's new update giving it 70% more raw pwr!"
I love youtube comments. Anyway, a friend of mine could not beat The first area of Demon's Souls. Could not kill Quelaag in Dark Souls. And hated Dark Souls 2 and stopped playing it after going through the tutorial areas. (he didn't like the gameplay)
He's infatuated with Bloodborne. He was so excited when he finally beat the Lady in the church. He took like 8 screenshots and spammed everyone on his friends list with them. He felt real victory beating her, and he's a casual gamer. Does this mean Blood is an easy game? No. It just means The tone and direction is easier to get into.
Especially if you like Dishonored. If I had to beg for DLC, it'd be a Corvo mask/attire for Bloodborne.
The new update of the X-Box wouldn't make the game get any kind of benefit or change the fact PS4 gonna get the best versions of multis xD, the only pro on that console Bloodborne would get it's more people having access to the game.
It s the only one that if i stop playing awhile , i still want to get back into it . So the only 1 i ll finish .
Just hard for me to want to come back to a game i know i ll die constantly even tho i had lots of fun with it .
Bloodborne got the perfect difficulty for me . You still need to progress slowly and think about how to fight a new enemie and if you do that you ll progress without dying much until you reach a boss .
It s difficult enough that you feel like upgrading your weapon and character every time you can is worth it ( rarely happen in most games ).

I've enjoyed it so far, but I do have one big gripe in that the online co-op is much more unstable when it comes to actually finding someone. Many times I just get kicked off. Its very frustrating because I still lose insight. So far I've been able to get through the game without needing too much help. I even beat that flayed dog thing that was apparently giving a few people fits. I love the play style though and enjoy that it uses the idea that the best defense is a good offense. I don't believe I have gotten very far yet, but I've enjoyed what I have done so far
Shoot guys… I read so much prise for this game that I will buy it today:D
Gooood……join us Jackie…. 😉 lol
I feel the same way. This community is really making me want to buy this game now.
I don't think it's any secret that I LOVE the Souls games. All of them, more than any respectable human should love an inanimate object. I love everything about them.
That said, I love Bloodborne, just finished it to get the "true" ending, and am working through NG+, will be starting a new character, will be using the new character to play online and get the "bad" ending, and have been thoroughly happy with the story, the story presentation (was worried about them adding story elements in game like notes but they're done well), and just the overall experience.
The only thing I can think of is that people are upset with the amount of weapons and armor. The trick weapons make up for the perceived lack of variety, and the armor is fine in my opinion. Is it less than previous games? Yeah, but it doesn't impede the game. Would I have liked to be able to upgrade armor? Yeah, but again, it's fine.
Walking away from DS2,im glad there's less variety. I probably spent more time on Wiki trying to figure out what weapons were worth it and constantly walked away disappointed.
Honestly none of the endings are "bad". They are all good(in regards to a Souls game) in their own way one is just more sad than the rest.
BRING BACK KING'S FIELD!!!!!!!!
It just got brought to the PSN store digitally so there is hope.
A new King Field on PS4! OMG I really hope that happens.
I absolutely love Bloodborne, despite the cons, and am a Souls fan as well.
I didn't walk into Bloodborne expecting Dark Souls. In fact, I would've been disappointed if it felt entirely Souls.
It's challenging, refreshing, and gorgeous.
i don't have one atm cos i haven't played the game yet but when i do have something i'll let you know in PGU or something along those lines
happy gaming
Everyone I know who loved Demon/Dark Souls loves Bloodborne. My friend is super excited that i'll play Dark Souls II with him when it comes out next week. He's been trying to get me to play for a while but I had little interest before loving Bloodborne.
