Bloodborne Enjoys Elden Ring Mania-Led Player Count Spike

Bloodborne

Bloodborne already had a core audience that never stopped playing, but amidst the release of Shadow of the Erdtree — the much-anticipated Elden Ring DLC — the game saw a huge spike in players. Dark Souls 3 also saw a spike in players.

A report from TrueTrophies notes that from the first week of June to a week after the DLC’s release, Bloodborne climbed 57.77% climb the ranks among both PS5 and PS4 players. That said, it doesn’t stop there as FromSoftware’s 2015 Soulsborne game continues to grow within the PS4 community.

As it stands, Bloodborne is now placed at spot 65 of the most-played PlayStation of the week.

Elden Ring Tops 23 Million Copies Sold

Since debuting early 2022, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring has topped 23 million copies sold, and that’s not even accounting for June-bound Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The numbers account for physical and digital sales across all platforms.

As reported by IGN, Bandai Namco issued an update about the game’s sales, which back in 2023, was floating around 20 million, so within that timeframe it’s totaled at least three more million. It’s actually just shy of the impressive sales number of Hogwarts Legacy, which is around 24 million.

Even though FromSoft popularized a genre with Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and its proceeding titles, Elden Ring hit different, blowing others out of the water and becoming the developer’s most successful game. Considering we’ve got a DLC on the horizon, we imagine this number will grow.

FromSoftware Knows Fans Want A Bloodborne Remake

Bloodborne

It’s one of the most open secrets out there in the gaming industry that Soulsborne fans desperately want Bloodborne to get the remake treatment, and it seems like Hidetaka Miyazaki doesn’t seem opposed to the idea if the proper owner would let him. The Japanese developer doesn’t own the rights to Bloodborne, instead that falls on Sony.

Speaking to IGN about Elden Ring’s upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Miyazaki expressed that it’s not his place to discuss the potentials of a remake, which has been rumored on-again-and-off-again for years now. He added that he enjoyed the project, stating to have “a lot of great memories” about the game.

We’re sure it’ll take a ton of sway — and money — to make Sony part ways with such a beloved — albeit abandoned — IP. It is, however, clear that it wants to retain copyright, if Bloodborne Kart is any indicator. At least Elden Ring is owned by FromSoft.

“Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it.”

Bloodborne Kart Delayed, Rebranding In Progress

Bloodborne

Bloodborne Kart has been delayed as it rebrands itself to wipe away the FromSoftware soulslike branding after Sony contacted the developer. We aren’t surprised, though, we are shocked it took Sony this long to pick up on the fan game.

As expressed in a YouTube video, it still plans on releasing the game, but has to delay it to undergo the rebranding, as it was releasing in only a matter of days — January 31. This kart racer was poised to have it all — 12 characters, 16 maps, a single-player campaign, split-screen couch co-op, and even boss battles against some familiar creatures.

Luckily, developer Lilith “Bunlith” Walther isn’t too bothered and had expected something like this happen, so we suspect she already has some rebranding plans to keep the essence of her vision intact.

What do you think? Are you still gonna keep an eye on this indie kart racer? Let us know below!

FromSoft Hiring For Dozens Of Roles For Upcoming Projects

Elden Ring

Japanese game developer FromSoftware is hiring dozens of roles for multiple different projects. At this point, what other stuff FromSoft has in the works. Right now, it’s taking things one step at a time, working on Elden Ring‘s first expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.

As spotted by IGN Japan (via PSLS), the game dev is seeking a slew of new hires, including roles like game planner, character designer, R&D, UI artist, cinematic artist, motion designer, and much more.

It’s possible that at least one of these new projects could be a Bloodborne revival, but that’s more of speculation than anything based on prior insider reports and its strong player counts, surpassing even a good few PS5 games. Alternatively, this could be extra staffing for new Elden Ring content or a remaster of another Dark Souls entry, though, Bluepoint Games usually handles the remasters.

What do you think? Could this be the start of Bloodborne’s return? Is this just another bout of hiring for new Elden Ring expansions? Let us know below!

Bloodborne Beats Most Of 2023’s PS5 Games’ Player Counts

Bloodborne

Bloodborne (read our review) player count is still going strong to this day. In fact, it’s even beating out a good portion of 2023 PS5 games in terms of its player count.

This 2015 game, part of the FromSoftware library, is still raking in new players and continues to outshine PS5 games, according to TrueTrophies. The outlet took the gameplay data from 3.5 million active PSN accounts and found that even games that came out this year are finding it harder to keep up with this cult hit.

Games like Dead Island 2, Atomic Heart, Monster Hunter Rise, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection, Forspoken Dead Space, and more have all been bested by this nearly decade-old PS4 FromSoft title. This data is from July, though, but we can’t imagine Bloodborne has fallen that hard from grace since.
