Tomb Raider I-III Remastered PS5 Version Lacks A Platinum Trophy

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered boasts a lot of trophies — over 200 — but yet apparently one version will lack the coveted Platinum Trophy. At this time, it isn’t clear why that’s the case or if the Xbox Series X|S version will have similar issues with its Achievements.

As reported by Insider Gaming, which got a hold of its trophy list, the game, which releases next week, currently lacks a Platinum Trophies for the current-gen version. Apparently, the PS4 hasn’t omitted them, though.

A ResetEra user proposed a possible reason, that being due to some changes made to how collection Trophies work on the PS5. User madbuk pointed to Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves as a point. We’ll take this as a possibility, but will absolutely wait until official confirmation.

“You can see this with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves – because it’s all one launcher, Lost Legacy trophies had to be added in as a DLC pack and only Uncharted 4 had a Platinum…”

What do you think? Does the lack of a PS5 Plat disappoint you? Let us know below!

Ubisoft Massive Lead Calls Trophies “Bad For Gaming”

Ubisoft Massive lead, Fredrik Thylander, has opened to a pretty niche and unpopular opinion — trophies are bad for gaming. While many people can spend a long time attempting to Platinum a game or get some of those hard-to-achieve trophies, he isn’t just saying that to say something that can stir the pot.

He believes that trophies are bad for gaming because it’s seen as this one-size-fits-all thing for all platforms while he just doesn’t see eye-to-eye on that. He believes games should offer their own reward mechanisms rather than following what platforms mandate and benefit from.

Adding to that, the Ubisoft Massive lead also feels that it eats resources that could go to the main game, and diverts and disrupts attention.

As with any unpopular opinion, Thylander was inundated with a fair bit of criticism for this hot take. He makes it clear that this is his own opinion and does not represent his employer in any capacity.

Train Sim World 2 Boasts A Stupidly Large Trophy List

Train Sim World 2

If you’re one of those train fanatics who cannot get enough in their video games, Train Sim World 2 is there to please. The game, which has recently released as a PS4 to PS5 free upgrade, does have one weird thing tied to it — its trophies.

While it’s easy to find it weird to see a trophy list at all for a game so niche, it’s a must for most any game to find its way to console and well, apparently, this train-based simulator boasts a huge trophy list, clocking in at 328 trophies for you to unlock.

Ever since its launch, it’s been chugging along and churning out semi-regular DLC that adds more and more trophies, eventually leading them to have to make sets of trophies. With the new console, however, it seems to have lifted that and they are free to include as many trophies as they want.

This isn’t even a competition, there are simply no games with as many trophies as Train Sim World 2, the closest may very well be The Elder Scrolls Online, however, even that is dwarfed at its 142 total trophies.

What do you think? Are you gonna play Train Sim World 2 or let it zoom by? Tell us below!

Are Platinum Trophies Too Hard To Get?

I'm all about balance.

There was a time in video game history when, quite frankly, games were simply way too hard. This was a result of the arcade boom (the more times you die, the more quarters you have to put in) and it bled into the living room. Plus, it was basically a niche, hardcore hobby in those days; if you played, you played .

These days, it's a mainstream form of entertainment and some would argue that games have gotten too easy. See, I like to stay somewhere in between. Same goes for rewards earned when playing those games and as such, I just have to ask: Are Platinum Trophies simply too difficult to obtain for the overwhelming majority of gamers? Let's not forget that most gamers have lives and sometimes, it's not so much the difficulty of earning certain Trophies, but the sheer amount of time one must invest.

I've made the case before for two Platinum Trophies; one each for single-player and multiplayer portions. If you get both, you earn a Diamond Trophy, or something like that. I still think that's a good idea for those of us who couldn't possibly care less about multiplayer in certain games. And while I'm aware that it's entirely up to the developer to choose the Trophies, I think some designers should acknowledge the huge mainstream appeal of games today. Maybe Platinums don't have to appear downright impossible for most gamers (again, gamers who also have lives).

That's really all I'm asking.

I Really Don’t Care About Trophies…I Must Be Really Weird

According to recent feedback one developer received , most – or many – gamers put a premium on Trophies (and Achievements, presumably).

Findings like that always confuse me, because I for one couldn't possibly care less about Trophies. Maybe it's the grudge I have against the increasing necessity for instant gratification and the pining for visible rewards for every little accomplishment. That could be it. It could also be that for some bizarre reason, Trophy collecting just doesn't appeal to my admittedly meticulous nature. By all rights, it should. I'm the quintessential completionist when it comes to complicated stuff like RPGs.

But at this point, I'm almost annoyed when a Trophy pops up. It's like the game has to say, "Hey, good job chief, you deserve a gold star!" whenever I do anything . I didn't need that kind of constant positive reinforcement in school and I don't need it now. Again, though, I can see the appeal; I understand the mania some have for grabbing as many Trophies as humanly possible. I get it. It makes total sense. In this way, I see both sides of the issue, even if I can't imagine killing myself to get a particularly difficult Trophy, just to have it in what I deem to be a meaningless digital collection of sparkly objects.

I'm also not sure Trophies and Achievements are great indicators of ability; the more difficult ones just seem to center on time. In other words, those with no lives seem to have the most Trophies/Achievements (no offense to those with big reward collections). So maybe it's just because I don't have that kind of time anymore, but I doubt it…I really just think it's because they don't enhance the gaming experience for me at all . And because it seems most don't agree, I must be weird. Oh well. So what else is new? 😉

What Trophies Are You Most Proud Of?

Trophies and Achievements are one of this generation's most significant new features, and one that will likely endure for quite a while.

Some don't care at all but others are definite Trophy fiends. And it's no secret that a great many Trophies are extremely difficult to obtain; they may take a huge amount of time, or a huge amount of skill…or, more often than not, both.

So of all the games you've played over the past five years, which Trophies/Achievements do you most treasure? Which are the ones that made you go, "Damn, I can't believe I actually got it!" Personally, I've never gotten into the whole Trophy craze, primarily because I have a small pet peeve when it comes to such forms of bite-size instant gratification. There's just something about these Trophies that makes me feel a little too much like a subject in a Pavlov experiment…

But even so, when it comes to games that really grab me, I have to admit I've glanced at the Trophy lists, just to see what I might have to do to obtain that always-elusive Platinum. See, I don't have any (although I would if there were Plats awarded only for single-player accomplishments), and I keep wondering if I'll ever get one. Maybe I'll get the one for Journey ; it doesn't seem too tough. Or, if I decide to put in enough time, the Platinum for FFXIII-2. But I doubt it. Still, I know I have a few pretty cool Trophies; what are yours?

In short, which ones do you brag about?
