Killzone VR Was In The Works, Could Be PSVR2 Now

Killzone VR

Despite a successful run as the primer franchise for Sony during the PS3 era, Killzone seemed to find its untimely and sudden end during the eighth gen, something we already kinda touched on before Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn came out. At this point, Guerrilla and Sony alike seem disinterested in the IP, going as far as retiring the official site, and not releasing a game since the PS Vita’s Mercenary in 2013, it might be due for a return for the next gen of PSVR provided this new Killzone VR rumor is true.

As we all know, the PSVR2 is going to be the second main focus of this next State of Play coming this Thursday, revealing “several” games that are in development for it. As it turns out, it sounds like a Killzone PSVR game was in the works over at Supermassive Games for “years” before Sony took it out of their hands and moved it in-house back in 2019 after not liking how the project was faring.

While nothing is concrete and it’s all more or less speculation, by 2019, Sony obviously had the PSVR2 in the woodworks already and probably saw no point in reviving such a storied franchise on the “past” gen console’s VR system and instead reworked it for the new on.

If this is all true, here’s hoping Killzone VR is one of the launch titles or at least one of the games revealed during the upcoming showcase.

Supermassive’s The Quarry Includes Movie Mode

The Quarry

Supermassive Games is hard at work bringing fans to a screaming halt. Alongside The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me, the studio is also working on another horror game under the title The Quarry. While this horror game holds a lot of different endings — 186, according to IGN’s preview video — it might be a bit much for gamers to take in.

As it turns out, if you’re more wanting to sit back and just enjoy the story as if you were just sitting down to watch a movie, The Quarry offers players the option to either select a pre-determined path aptly titled “Everyone Lives” or “Everyone Dies.” Alternatively, you can go with choice C and sit in the “Director’s Chair” and fiddle around with the attitude of each character and how they react to key situations like conversations with certain characters or combat.

Additionally, many features like quicktime events, aim assist, choice timer, and more can be altered or some even shut off altogether.

We can all get ours hands on The Quarry when it hits digital shelves on June 10 on both current and past-gen consoles.

Supermassive “Talking Internally” About Another Until Dawn

Last week, Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida admitted the company was "surprised" by the positive reaction to Until Dawn , the PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Now, the developer that delivered this narrative-driven horror-fest says sales have exceeded internal expectations, and they are indeed thinking about a sequel.

In a new PlayStation LifeStyle interview , Suppermassive Games executive producer Pete Samuels didn't give an exact sales number, but he did say the game did better than anticipated. And even though it's "a little early" to go into detail, the team is considering the next step:

"We do talk internally about what Until Dawn 2 could be, as it clearly can't be a sequel in the traditional sense, with the same characters facing the same threat, not least of which because in different stories some or all of them are already dead!" he explained. "We've investigated other ways we could do Until Dawn 2 but it probably is a little early to be discussing that."

Even if Supermassive doesn't end up working on another Until Dawn game, you can bet their next project will benefit from the lessons they've learned, "whether it's in horror or in other genres."

We wondered if Until Dawn could become the next great PlayStation franchise , and our readers said the game in question turned out to be fantastic . Now, maybe Sony just needs to give Supermassive the green light…

Sony “Caught By Surprise” By Positive Reaction To Until Dawn

Until Dawn was a pleasant surprise for us and has actually become one of our favorite PlayStation 4 exclusives.

But what does Sony think? Well, PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida says he thinks it's a "sleeper hit," despite the admitted lack of advertising and marketing.

In speaking to Eurogamer , Yoshida first said Sony was "super happy with the reactions from people" and in fact, due to this recognition, "the marketing department can continue to support the title through Christmas with some creative ideas." As for why there wasn't much of an initial marketing blitz:

"People have asked me why it wasn't marketed as much as other titles. It's a decision made by marketing departments in each region. Because of the focus on this Christmas time-frame, to really support the big third-party titles like Destiny and these titles, they didn't see the need to push Until Dawn that much from the platform marketing standpoint. I think everybody was caught by surprise by the positive reaction."

Furthermore, Yoshida said the game's success is "a really great thing for the future of the interactive drama genre." And that's why I love PlayStation, because they're the only brand right now that seems to be allowing such productions to survive and thrive. Heavy Rain , anyone? Is it any surprise that Quantic Dream's masterpiece and Until Dawn are PlayStation exclusives? Here's hoping Sony lets Supermassive do another Until Dawn !

Alan Wake was on the wrong platform. Had it been on PlayStation, I'm positive it would've done much better.
