Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Will Feature Revamped Combat

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is set to revamp the game’s combat system into something that “console action game players of today” will enjoy. This comes after confirming that “fan requests” have led to the team deciding to dub RePOP a remaster rather than a remake.

Dragami Games president Yoshimi Yasuda shares on Twitter that some tweaks will be made to the game’s battles. These changes will include speed adjustments, camera movements, improved input timing for cheerleader sequences, and chainsaw combos.

Largely, Dragami’s looking to trim the sluggish fat from the high-octane hack-and-slash. We can step back into the shoes and pastel skirt of Juliet Starling when Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP drops in the summer of 2024.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Now A Remaster

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP

It seems Dragami Games is taking the reintroduction of Lollipop Chainsaw in a different direction — from a remake to a remaster. We knew this PS3-era gem was getting brought to a new generation, but for the longest time we believed it to be a remake.

A recent post on social media by Dragami president Yoshimi Yasuda alludes that Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will actually be a remaster as opposed to a remake like expected. This change was “based on your requests,” so anticipate a group of fans wanted to see the game brought back but remain true to form.

Due to this change, we anticipate RePOP will play akin to the original more than Dragami originally planned. As a quick note — yes, there’s a difference between the two. A remake is a developer rebuilding a game typically from the ground up, while a remaster is usually touching up the graphics and overhauling assets.

Lollipop Chainsaw Finally Passes 1 Million

It took a while, but they've finally reached that lofty milestone.

As Grasshopper Manufacture announced on Twitter , the over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek Lollipop Chainsaw has passed 1 million copies sold worldwide:

"Get your celebration gear on! Lollipop Chainsaw has sold more than a million copies!!! Woot Woot!!"

It took over a year and a half for the game to pass the million mark, but at least it happened, right? In response to a fan on Twitter who wanted to know if we'd ever see a sequel, the studio said: "Personally, I think so." That's good news, especially because Grasshopper isn't always in the business of pumping out sequels; they tend to focus on new IPs. Would you like to see a sequel?

If you missed out, you can always read our review and decide if you want to help raise that million total.

Suda51 On Sexuality In Games: People Should “Laugh A Bit”

Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture's over-the-top, highly stylized games can be offensive to some people, especially in regards to the way they portray female characters.

Now, accomplished designer Suda 51 has addressed those issues in a new GamesIndustry.biz interview . He says that anything anybody creates in the artistic realm has the potential to be criticized. At the same time, this also means you're getting some valuable attention:

"I think in a way when you get criticism, that means people are paying attention to your work. Any kind of artistic value, anything you create, there's always some kind of criticism behind it. Which means we're making an impression and an impact.

So I think we'll stay with what we're thinking and just keep going with that way of thinking…And when I say that, sexuality is a touchy subject. We don't want to make people offended, but we're trying to create something that makes people laugh a bit because we're [dealing with] that topic."

As an example, Grasshopper's Lollipop Chainsaw features the 18-year-old cheerleader, Juliet, who wields a chainsaw, makes plenty of innuendo-laden puns, and sports a very short skirt. That's not the only example of over-sexualized characters in the developer's games but remember, it's all tongue-in-cheek. Still, "all in good fun" is not a popular phrase these days, unfortunately. Rather, hyper sensitivity is the norm.

Lollipop Chainsaw Becomes A Porno…Oh, What A Shock

We all knew it was inevitable.

Lollipop Chainsaw was all sorts of titillating to begin with, but it never really aspired to the realm of softcore porn…or hardcore porn, for that matter.

So that's why some raunchy video makers in Japan had to take matters into their own hands. According to Kotaku , a movie called "Tia's Geek Cosplay FU**!" is on the way, and it's being made at the request of Tia's fans. It seems she'll even dress up in various "special outfits Lollipop Chainsaw offered." You can click the link at Kotaku if you like; it brings you to a site that is definitely NSFW, so peruse at your own risk. We're going to just assume that at some point in the movie, lollipops will be used for…various reasons. Try not to let you mind wander too much.

This isn't really anything new. There's porn for a lot of video games out there and besides, the title in question was just begging for the nasty stuff. I'm just surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Lollipop Chainsaw Ships Over 700,000

Sex sells. …oh okay, the game was actually lots of fun, too.

Developer Kadokawa Games hosted a special Lollipop Chainsaw Summer Appreciation Festival event, during which it was revealed that shipments for the game had surpassed 700,000 units , which means that a great many gamers have watched Juliet Starling suck on a lollipop and decapitate legions of "undead douchebags."

This performance makes it the most popular Grasshopper Manufacture title to date. To celebrate, Kadokawa CEO Yoshimi Yasuda unveiled the first trailer for Killer is Dead , the studio's new project. We don't have that trailer just yet, but various sources, including Famitsu and Impress Watch, have reported that it featured a man with a cyborg left arm and a katana in his right hand. The style appeared to be a blend of No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw , apparently. Grasshopper boss Suda 51 added that we can expect a "new hero" in Killer is Dead along with "lots of hot girls." …big surprise.

The game is slated to launch some time next year for the PS3 and 360. As for Lollipop , we definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for some mindless titillating fun.
