Hitman 3 Over-Performed In First Year Sales

Hitman 3

With a budget of about $22.5 million, IO Interactive‘s big hit, Hitman 3, managed to subvert expectations and over-perform in sales within its first year.

Over on Install Base Forum, DarkDetective showcased 2021/2022 Q1 reports, which weren’t very much in the public’s eyes until now, proving just how well the game sold within its first year. Hitman 3 is still selling well even in its second year, mostly due to content deals and releases on platforms like Steam and Game Pass.

Due to lacking releases, IO Interactive projects harsher revenue drops when we enter fiscal year 2024 and 2025. It’s already projecting profits to lag behind this fiscal year with expectations set at anywhere from $36.4 to $43.6 million after tax.

The expected profit drop lines up with reports that IO won’t have any games until four months into 2025.

Who Was Crowned PS5 Game Of The Year On PS Blog?

Game of the Year

As the year draws closer to an end, Sony has announced the winners of their own award categories as decided by the public. Among the handful of categories, Game of the Year was the top dog. For PS5, fans got to choose from Resident Evil Village, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Returnal, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. After all’s said and done, only one can be dubbed the PS5 GOTY and that award was bestowed upon Insomniac Games’ Rift Apart.

In terms of PS4 contestants, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, It Takes Two, which already won GOTY at The Game Awards, Far Cry 6, and Resident Evil Village were all in the running, but Capcom managed to claim victory with Village as the PS4 GOTY.

Finally, PSVR wasn’t excluded from the party, with DOOM 3 VR Edition, I Expect You To Die 2, Hitman 3, and Sniper Elite VR in the running, IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 took home the gold… or rather platinum.

Hitman 3 Dev Aims To Do DLC, Needs To Define It First

Hitman 3

The Hitman franchise ended its World of Assassination trilogy with Hitman 3. That said, it isn’t the end of Agent 47’s exploits. While initially quiet about the potential of post-launch content, IO Interactive has opened up about the entry’s future… kind of.

In a statement to The Gamer, the title’s executive producer, Forest Swartout Large, did say they aren’t through with the franchise just yet.

“We’re continuously working on Hitman so we are already looking to the future.”

Large then continued by saying they are going to do DLC for Hitman 3, but haven’t yet hammered out all the kinks, what is for sure is it probably won’t be a new map.

“We are definitely going to be doing some DLC, but we haven’t defined what that is. I think for now we are not looking at new maps like the bank and the island.”

It isn’t clear when they will find the time to produce the extra content as they change direction in order to put a bit of focus on Project 007, their James Bond game.

PS5 Hitman 3, No Man’s Sky Copies Won’t Support PSVR

PSVR, No Man's Sky

PSVR users might want to think twice before jumping ship. UploadVR has accrued some new info about the virtual reality future and its PS5 variant. Turns out we have some bad news – it’s looking like the PSVR isn’t going to be as prevalent this generation.

It’s been a long-running speculation that Sony would lean more into VR with the added power the PS5 could allow, but in that same regard, fans also saw the signs that PSVR support wasn’t going to be as common as some hoped. For example, as Hitman 3 revealed its VR support, its PS5 box art omitted the PSVR logo, signaling it wouldn’t be a thing for the game.

Similarly to Hitman 3, No Man’s Sky also gave confirmation by telling fans that there will be VR support “by virtue of backwards compatibility.” This means – as it stands – you should cover your bases and get the game on PS4 rather than nab yourself a PS5 copy.

Luckily, both titles are on the list of free upgrades, but it isn’t clear if there is a way to downgrade if you, down the line, want to play the game in VR. Obviously, though, you’ll still need other things to get started like the official PSVR adapter, which Sony is sending to any existing PSVR customer free of charge.

Truly a sad prospect, but Sony isn’t completely done with VR, it’s just not its priority as the new generation comes forward.
