GT Academy 2015 Kicks Off Today

Think you've got what it takes to race with the best?

It's time for the fifth season of the Gran Turismo Academy; the 2015 competition begins today, April 21, and will remain open to all participants through June 16. For more, visit the PlayStation Blog .

Just cue up Gran Turismo 6 and give it a shot. At the culmination of the 8-week contest, racers with the 20 fastest in-game race times will go head-to-head in person this summer at the US Nationals. And interesting news for US drivers:

"In a change from previous years, the U.S. region will for the first time participate as part of the International competition where only the top six will advance to the International Finals. There they will try to prove they are one of the best in the world, deserving of a shot at the dream job of a professional racing placement for Nissan."

Sweet, huh? I was always pretty good at GT but I know I've got no shot against the best in the world. But if you think you can impress, produce your best track time and hope for the best!

GT6 Update Brings Back B-Spec Mode, Mid-Field Raceway

Time to dust off Gran Turismo 6 .

Even though a year has passed since the game launched in December 2013, developer Polyphony Digital still has a few more tricks up its sleeve.

Here comes patch 1.16, which is pretty big: It brings B-Spec mode to the game for the first time; it was available in previous installments but mysteriously left out of GT6. This lets you basically manage an AI driver as he spins around the track, making long events a lot easier. It's the only way I did those 24-hour endurance events back in the day, I can tell you that.

They've also tossed in the Mini Clubman Vision GT (pictured here), which you can either purchase or earn by finishing a lap in the new, limited-time seasonal events. Lastly, they've brought back the Mid-Field Raceway track, one of my all-time favorites! There are a few other additions as well; check the game's official website for the full details.

Now, let's hear about Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4!

GT5 Online Event Finale: Earn Five Hot New Cars For GT6

Out with the old, in with the new.

On May 31, online support for Gran Turismo 5 will end. But to celebrate that "death," developer Polyphony Digital will host a special online event that will benefit Gran Turismo 6 owners.

As revealed at GTPlanet , participating in the GT5 "Online Event Finale" will net players five free vehicles for GT6: Abarth Grande Punto '09, Renault Sport Megane R.S. Trophy '11, Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) '08, Tesla Motors Model S Signature Performance '12 and Subaru S206 NBR Challenge Package '12. The event consists of two stages; the first has a focus on the Mazda Roadster Touring Car '11 and Top Gear Test Track, and the second involves the Nissan GT-R N24 Schulze Motorsports '11 and the demanding Nurburgring 24h.

Now, how's about news of GT7, Yamauchi?

Toyota FT-1 Concept Coupe Available Now For GT6 Drivers

Gran Turismo 6 has lots of cars. But the acclaimed driving simulator just got one more.

During this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Polyphony Digital Inc. and Toyota officially unveiled the Toyota FT-1 Concept Coupe. And as announced over at the PlayStation Blog , GT6 players will be the first to test-drive it.

Thanks to a free online update, the FT-1 is now available to try out. You can drive it in a special seasonal event and if you receive a bronze or better in the challenge at Laguna Seca, you'll get the car. Having this bad boy in your garage will probably feel pretty good, huh? However, if you'd rather not participate in the challenge, you can always purchase the car from the in-game Toyota dealership. It was Calty Design Research who came to Polyphony and asked the developers to put their new FT-1 creation into the latest GT installment.

Said Calty Design president Kevin Hunter:

"Thanks to the amazing capability of the Gran Turismo game engine, gamers can enjoy a very real simulation piloting the ultra-high performance FT-1 on the tracks it was designed to master."
