New PS5 Beta Launches Tests New Features Including Adaptive Charging

Upcoming PS5 features are being tested in a new Beta launched yesterday July 25, with one particular feature for those with the 2023 PS5 Slim model.

Invited Beta testers in specific countries are now able to test out three main features in a new PS5 Firmware Beta rolled out by Sony. These three features involve 3D audio profiles, Remote Play for individual profiles, and Adaptive charging for the DualSense controller.

3D audio is a features that’s been around since the launch of the PlayStation 5 almost four years ago. In the new PS5 Beta however, this feature is being further enhanced with more customizable settings to better suit the user’s hearing preferences. These more customizable settings will be saved to each console user’s profiles in addition to still being able to select between existing presets. Keep in mind that 3D audio is best used with supported devices such as the Pulse Elite wireless headset and certain Dolby Atmos speakers.

The new Beta also tests Remote Play settings for each PS5 user on a single console. Rather than having all users on a PS5 console able to access the same console through Remote Play, limitations are now available to choose who has or does not have Remote Play access to a single PS5 (according to Push Square).

Last but not least, an upcoming feature exclusive to the PS5 Slim is Adaptive Charging for the DualSense controller. With the console set in Rest Mode and controller plugged in, Adaptive Charging will adjust charging time depending on how much charge the controller already has. This feature is also supported on the Edge model of the controller as well as with the PS VR2 controllers.

Final note: In case the new Beta is not available in your country, Sony via the PlayStation Blog says the new Beta will gradually be rolled out to more countries world wide throughout the remainder of the year.

Full Discord Support To Come In Next Firmware Update

Discord

The next firmware update may include full Discord support. This rumor comes after reports of keen GitHub users finding signs of PS5 voice integration earlier this month.

As reported by Insider Gaming, the next big update is scheduled for March 8, 2023. Right now, neither Discord or Sony have confirmed these reports, but considering it hails from a rather reliable source, we can imagine this to be the case.

While the report alleges a public beta is on the way in the coming days, it also mentioned that users won’t be able to test the Discord integration for one reason or another.

Back in May 2021, PlayStation inked a partnership with Discord, but very few features actually came with the deal as we saw it. Users could link their PSN and also display the game they’re playing on that console.

PlayStation Releases PS3, Vita Security Firmware Update

ps-vita

Both the PS3 and PlayStation Vita are once again in the public eye as firmware updates rolled out for them earlier this week. These firmware updates were done to ramp up its security.

If players sign into an account on PS3 or Vita, you’ll have to go through two-factor authentication. They’ve also barred you from making new PSN accounts on either system.

These changes totally seem to be PlayStation trying to chip away at the long-since gone consoles. Last year in October, they barred users from using PayPal and credit/debit cards and earlier this year in March, they stopped letting people renew subscriptions on the consoles.

Infamously, PlayStation also tried to shutter the stores on both consoles, but reversed their decision thanks to mass public outcry. In May, they also stopped accepting games releasing on the Vita.

Firmware Update 6.00 is Out and It’s Not Very Exciting

Update 6.00

Sony released a new firmware update earlier in update 6.00. That’s a nice round number and if past updates are anything to go by, that means it’s one of those big, meaty (i.e., major) updates right? As of right now it doesn’t seem that way.

Firmware Update 6.00

The new update rolled out earlier today and weighs a measly 430MB. It won’t take long to download at least. Stated in the description of the update; “This system software update improves system performance.” And… that’s it.

Now, it’s not unusual for some of these updates to have “secret” features that aren’t included in the description but as of right now it doesn’t look like there is anything else going on. Apparently, it only adds improvement to the system. Of course, that may change when someone finds something or Sony decides to give us a bit more information.

With a numbered update such as this, most people expected some bigger features. The most wanted, of course, being the psn name change that was more or less hinted at last year at Playstation Experience.

PSX 2018 is only a few months away so maybe we’ll find out more about that if it doesn’t suddenly come out of this update (I wouldn’t get your hopes up). I mean, we haven’t heard anything about this year’s PSX yet but that’s a different story altogether. For now, I guess we’ll enjoy some improved system performance?

What do you think of this update not having much to it? Were you expecting a bit more?
