PS4 Firmware ‘Musashi’ Available April 6

A new PlayStation firmware, version 3.50, codenames Musashi becomes available tomorrow.

In addition to the usual "refinements and improvements" to the OS and system stability, 'Musashi' adds some significant new features to your PlayStation 4.

More detail can be found at the PlayStation Blog .

PS4 3.50 (Musashi) features;

In addition the PlayStation App version 3.5 is also available tomorrow for your favorite smart devices.

Remote Play for PC/Mac runs with Windows 8.1 ot Windows 10+, Mac OS X 10.10 and 10.11. several resolutions are available, 360p, 540p and 720p; with framerates of 30fps and 60fps also available. Actual resolution and frame rates will depend on the performance of your connection of course. The DS4 controller may be used on your PC/Mac for remote play. You'll need to download a remote play client for the PC or Mac, this client will become available once the firmware is available for download.

Appear Offline adds the ability to appear offline when you login (or at any time), so you can play games or watch video without your friends (or family) knowing you're online. Finally, you can skip that late night party on Call of Duty and play Omega Quintet without your friends knowing why you bailed on them…

Friend Online Notification , now you will get a notification alert when friends come online. I can't help wondering why this feature was absent in the first place, even PS3 had it.

Play Together allows you to see what games people in your party are playing, so you can join them if you wish.

PSN Status is literally a PSN Status page that lets you know how PSN is doing…hint, if this doesn't work, PSN is down.

Teen Account creation , let's parents create an account for their teens so that they can play games under their own account, but the parent account can limit online play until they enable it.

PlayStation Plus Hub , improves PS Plus information and management.

Musashi (3.50) is available on April 6th, I'd imagine it will be a mandatory update for online play.

So, on your marks, get set, GO!

Speaking of the 'Friend Online Notification', great feature, and definitely shouldn't have taken so long, but… will this feature also include the last time your friend was online? I liked that feature on the PS3. I could tell that my friend was just on like 5mins ago or hasn't been on in 5 weeks.

Damn wish Remote play was for Win7. Just may have to click that free Win10 update button in the future.

Pretty surprised it allows 60fps. That's really good.

I'd bet that someone will figure out how to make it work, or create a open source version that does. Making Windows 7 run a Windows 8.1 app might hit issues like missing libraries, but I'd be surprised if no on tried to find a work around, give it a month or two.

If you value your privacy at all, I highly recommend that you don't upgrade to Windows 10 for your personal computer.

For gaming purposes however, I think it is best to have a dedicated gaming rig and you can run Windows 10 on that (and have the benefits of DirectX 12 and so on).

Also, I think Windows 8 is just as good as Windows 7 if not better if you install the "Start8" program. The start function is superior to the official Windows 7 variant, plus you can get all the refinements that come with Windows 8 (minus the ridiculous privacy invasions that come with Windows 10).

So if you must have an all in one system, Windows 8 fits the bill.

Yeah, that's an annoyance since Win7 is still supported for another 4 years. Luckily, Win8.x and 10 made me buy a MacBook Pro for a mobile computer, so I can at least use that.

Windows 7 may be 'supported' for another 4 years, but it's no longer receiving the same level of support as current products. Windows 7 is a sunset product for MS now, they don't develop anything with Windows 7 in mind.

Here's a quote for you on Windows 7 support;
"Microsoft announced that after July 17, 2017, only the 'most critical' security fixes will be released for those platforms and those fixes will only be made available if they don't 'risk the reliability or compatibility' of Windows 7 and 8.1"

Trying remote play works on my lap top, tried on my desk top get sound and a black screen not sure if it has to do with windows Pro 10 or not. any info would be good, Now with thank said I did try to use wifi and that did not work with remote play so now using wired net work it just works ok.
I will do more testing maybe it will get better with time. 🙂

The black screen may be a result of the mode you're running it in, is it Windows or full screen? I have similar problems running FFXIV on my laptop PC, not Windows 10, but the problem isn't windows is the BIOS/drivers for the nVidia GPU in my laptop. If I run the game windowed, it works, but if I try full screen, I get a black screen. Sadly it means that the framerate is a bit compromised thanks to running in a Window. but the issue is BIOS/driver related
