E3 Loses Ubisoft

Welp, E3 loses Ubisoft. The major gaming event has been on a rather sharp downward spiral as of late. Many developers would rather put together their own showcase or go elsewhere than attend the legacy event.

Despite Ubisoft’s commitment to attend the revamped version of E3, it seems they had a change of heart and decided to shift gears and hold a Ubisoft Forward Live event instead, according to VGC. What makes this a huge blow to the ReedPop-organized event is that without the Assassin’s Creed dev, the event has no headliners confirmed to attend.

Nintendo and Xbox are confirmed to be skipping, and Sony, well, they haven’t attended E3 in years. As E3 loses Ubisoft, it’s not looking like 2023 will be a great year for the revamped event.

Full Ubisoft Statement

“E3 has fostered unforgettable moments across the industry throughout the years. While we initially intended to have an official E3 presence, we’ve made the subsequent decision to move in a different direction, and will be holding a Ubisoft Forward Live event on 12th June in Los Angeles. We look forward to sharing more details with our players very soon.”

The Game Awards To Be More “Streamlined” This Year

The Game Awards

The Game Awards is upon us in a matter of days and event creator Geoff Keighley has revealed a bit more on how long we can expect to sit and watch the show. This year, he plans on the event being shorter than the last few years due to viewer feedback.

According to Keighley himself over on Twitter Spaces (via VGC), the hopes to give a shorter show, but won’t say too much until after their rehearsals.

“One thing we’re doing this year is we’re trying to make the show a little bit shorter. I won’t say anything officially until we’re through our rehearsals, but we think it’s going to be a significantly shorter show this year.”

The last few years have been over three hours and while that can be interesting for a long-term viewing, it’s also hard to really sit down and watch for some people who just don’t have the attention span. Keighley’s looking feedback and will streamline The Game Awards this year in order to avoid viewer fatigue, he’s even cutting back on things that will appear on the show, including big releases.

“We think there’s been a little bit of fatigue about how long the show has been, there are lots of games and lots of things that want to be a part of it, but we’re cutting back on those things to hopefully have a bit more of a streamlined show.”

The Game Awards starts December 8 at 4:30 PT.

E3 Is Returning Digitally For 2021

E3 2021

The year 2020 was a crazy year. Mostly thanks to the global pandemic that has changed everyone’s lives in some form or another. It hit the gaming industry in a big way as well. Especially for live events. Last year the E3 was canceled altogether thanks to Covid-19. A few companies had their own events however, including Sony’s own showcases. And Geoff Keighley picked up some of the slack with a slew of announcements with Summer Game Fest (which will also be making a return this year).

The good news is that E3 will be returning for 2021 with a four-day all-digital event June 12 to the 15.

Some of the big companies have already signed up to be present including Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony, as of right now, is absent from the list. Sony bowed out from E3 2019 and had no plans to attend last year’s event before it was canceled. So, this isn’t all that surprising. You can see more of ESA’s announcement here, including attending companies.

It’s “Game On.” for E3, as The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) officially unveils plans for a reimagined, all-virtual E3 2021 that will engage video game fans everywhere. With early commitments from Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games, Koch Media, and more to come, E3 2021 will take place June 12 through June 15.

E3 being all digital is a natural result of the times we live in. While things will eventually return to normal, the pandemic has changed live events in a big way. It may have changed how we consume live events permanently. Either way, check your calendars and see what the future brings. We’ll bring more news along with it.

Are you excited to see E3 return? What would you like to see announced?

The Future Of Gaming New Event Date Revealed

The Future of Gaming

It’s happening, guys. Sony has revealed the new date for The Future of Gaming event after being postponed earlier this month. The event, which is going to give us a taste as to what to expect this generation, is going to start on June 11 at 1 PM PST.

The Future of Gaming was announced late last month with a June 5 date. On June 1, they postponed it. Now, it seems Sony thinks now’s as good of a time as any to do the hour-long reveal.

The event will be 1080p at 30 frames per second. They did assure fans the games will run even better when combining it with a 4K TV.

What do you think? Are you excited for June 11? What do you hope is revealed? Tell us below!

The Future Of Gaming Event Postponed

The Future of Gaming

Just as everyone was readying up to witness the upcoming PS5 event, The Future of Gaming, set to happen later this week, it was postponed. In a tweet released earlier today, they made the announcement they’re canceling the reveal as they don’t feel like right now is not a good time for celebration.

This cancelation is due to recent events. It’s no doubt disappointing to fans who were waiting for this event since its announcement. Some people want good news every now and then, especially with how this year is going. Unlike most postponed events we’re not seeing a new date for The Future of Gaming.

We’ll report on the new date once announced.

Sony Skips E3 2020 Citing It Isn’t The “Right Venue”

E3 skipped by Sony

It seems Sony is skipping E3 for the second year in a row. The decision to skip comes down to how Sony feels about the event’s vision. Simply put, while they say they have respect for ESA, the event organizer, as a company, they don’t feel E3 2020 is the “right venue” for any major reveals they could be cooking up.

“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.”

The PlayStation spokesperson went on to explain they’ll be going to “hundreds” of events to make fans feel like family. They also assured fans that there are a ton more PS4 titles coming soon.

“We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”

E3 Is A Signature Event

As a response to this, ESA issued a statement, claiming it to be a “signature event” for the gaming industry.

“E3 is a signature event celebrating the video game industry and showcasing the people, brands and innovations redefining entertainment loved by billions of people around the world. E3 2020 will be an exciting, high-energy show featuring new experiences, partners, exhibitor spaces, activations, and programming that will entertain new and veteran attendees alike. Exhibitor interest in our new activations is gaining the attention of brands that view E3 as a key opportunity to connect with video game fans worldwide.”

E3 has been a mainstay event for PlayStation up until last year. They have always used the event as a means to reveal future plans ever since the very first E3 in 1995 when they announced the original PlayStation‘s price and release date.

It’s unclear what they’re plans are in the future and if this means 2018’s E3 will be Sony’s last. E3 2020 will kick off June 9 and end on the 11.
