Call Of Duty Infographic Is Mind-Boggling

These are some ridiculous numbers.

Activision has sent over a new Call of Duty infographic, which proves the franchise's utter domination over the years.

The series boasts over $11 billion in total lifetime revenue; all told, there have been 175 million CoD titles sold to date. This works out to approximately one copy sold every two seconds, which is just beyond silly. The only franchise to claim more overall sales is Grand Theft Auto , coming in at 185 million.

Over 100 billion multiplayer matches have been played, players have thrown over 300 billion grenades, and there has been 579 billion in-game awards earned. That's five times the number of stars in the Milky Way galaxy, if you were wondering.

We all knew CoD was a huge franchise but when you see numbers like this, you have to wonder: Has multiplayer gaming proven to be more popular (and more addictive) than single-player gaming could ever be? Obviously, these numbers wouldn't exist without the CoD multiplayer, so…

I didn't think if multiplayer being more popular than single player was even still a question

Wow, I'm surprised GTA is still in the lead.

Sadly, you only have to talk to kids for a few minutes to see their views on multiplayer. A high school aged kid I was talking to at work recently, told me he thinks every game should be multiplayer. Not have multiplayer, but BE multiplayer. I tried to come up with some specific games and genres that just simply wouldn't work, but he had a quick response to explain to me how they would each be better for it, including The Last of Us and survival horror games. He kept calling single player an old fashioned idea, and is sure in a few years it will go away entirely. I know he doesn't speak for everyone his age, but I have a bad feeling about the next generation of developers who are growing up and cutting their teeth in this age.

Just 10 million copies away from GTA?
If we have GTA every year then the gap would be 20 million.
Is GTA the highest-selling franchise of all time?

I don't play COD anymore (it made me angry), but I sure contributed to those numbers!
