FFX/X-2 HD Finally Reaching “Final Stages Of Development”

So, how's that Final Fantasy X HD project coming along?

Square Enix has provided us with a progress report and the good news is that it's "approaching the final stages of development." We still don't get a release date, though.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase said they're taking their time, so the new vision "won't ruin the memories" that these games instilled in all of us over a decade ago. Remember, this remaster package also includes Final Fantasy X-2 HD . As for the visual upgrade, the team has "modified the characters and polygons, one by one" and they've also updated the textures. Added Kitase:

"Not everything has changed, but the main character expressions in cut-scenes have been altered. However, simply adding polygons can subtly change impressions, so we're constantly checking while revising to make sure we don't ruin the image of Tidus and Yuna for the fans."

We don't recall other developers saying it was such a meticulous challenge to issue an HD remaster of a classic PS2 game but hey, so long as we get what we desire. And at least we'll get a couple real Final Fantasy games in high-def before the generation is over.

I've already pre-ordered, I'm glad they are working hard on it but man what a long time. They must have given this project to the one employee not working on A Realm Reborn.

As much as I'm already attached to the English actors I'd like to have the Japanese option in here too.

edit: Here's hoping they synced the lips a bit better and kept the horrible laughing scene intact.

lol, exactly. I was thinking the same thing.

Anyway, these are a lock for my Vita.

And speaking of jRPG remasters, I say Xenogears more than any PSX era RPG needs a remake, like the supposed FFVII remake. The game is really ambitious with it's story presentation by way of cinematography and it's 3D rotational camera. Most of the problems I have with the game is traced to the very limited tech this game was constrained under during development. It could be A LOT more than it is if the assets were recreated for the current gen. It'd be phenomenal really. Aside from MGS on the PSX it's the most cinematic by way of story telling I can think of.

oh, i also am hoping the combat system and combat encounters gets a bit more involved in Xenogears. I'm only about 24 hours in but I feel like it could use more meat by way of game play.

I wouldn't hold my breath, FFVII is considered one of the greatest games of all time worldwide and would easily sell 7-10 million copies in a remake and SE and won't even consider it so even a gem like Xenogears would probably never have a shot.

yah, I feel certain it would never happen, seeing that it's more 'cult-like' in status than FF is anyway.

I'm with you Temjin… Xenogears is my absolute favorite PS1 game. Nothing but great memories with that one.

But yeah… sadly, probably no chance. 🙁

It's far from perfect though. Pacing isn't very good from gameplay or story. It's slow to start then just flies at the end making you wonder if you'll even get to use the battle system to it's fullness. I won't ruin the story, but it's well known that the second disc basically turns into a narrative because they made the game so damn long. Makes it feel rushed to get to the end. 🙁

Still though… at least the story is tough to top despite pacing.

Been playing this on my ps2. Couldn't wait anymore for the HD collection. This, and Final Fantasy 9 are by far my favorite Final Fantasies. 12 is probably third.

Some games that have been remastered in HD, have focused on the gameplay while leaving the cut scenes blurry. It makes sense to me that it has taken SE longer to remaster X and X-2 than the three months most other remasters are given.

I really am confident that SE will deliver the best remaster to date.

With all due respect to Ni No Kuni. I can't wait to play Final Fantasy X and X2 on my vita.

I never got the chance to finish those games back in the day.
