Okay, I give.
After several years of essentially handling every last aspect of content creation for PSX Extreme all by my lonesome, I've reached the end of my tether. But that's a good thing…for you . Here's why.
I'm looking for several contributors to join up and help me out. These will be on a volunteer basis but here's the good news- Firstly, the reason we're not advertising this all around the Internet is because I really want some loyal readers who have enjoyed PSXE for a while. So if you're a long-time reader and participator in the Comments and in the Forums (and I know who you are), you have a better shot of getting in.
Secondly, I don't believe in forcing schedules down people's throats when we're not talking about money. Contributors for PSXE can produce as much or as little content as they desire. I'm primarily looking for someone who wouldn't mind seeking high and low for interesting, unique, or even breaking news stories. I quite simply don't have the time for that any longer and it takes up a ridiculous amount of my day if I try. However, you're also perfectly willing to give us previews and reviews, as well as most any other content we typically publish. You can write whenever (day, night, weekend) and it doesn't matter where you live.
Thirdly and lastly, experience is a good thing. You can use this as a stepping-stone if you're looking to break into the field of video game journalism, and it will expose you to how it all works (at least to some extent). It'll be very simple; initially, you'll have to clear what you want to post up with me but after a while, you'll have free reign. If you're interested in joining up and being a part of one of the best and longest-running PlayStation websites on the Internet, email me at-
bdutka[at]psxextreme.com
I'm looking for two or three good peeps. When you send me your message, give me an idea of what you'd feel most comfortable doing, and if you have any experience. It's all right if you don't; just bear in mind that you must be able to exhibit the writing quality we desire. I can school you on the simple backend stuff if you're a fit.
So if you wish to help, I'm willing to hear from you. 🙂
I've been interested in this business for a while but decided to pursue the publishing industry. Journalism and the video game industry in generally both seriously interest me, too. I'll be thinking about this one!
I'd like to add one thing- I've already received three requests to be a Contributor in the span of a half-hour, which is what I expected. I'm sure I'll see dozens of interested parties.
So please, PLEASE bear in mind that if you aren't selected, it's just because there was someone who I thought would be a slightly better fit. And it certainly doesn't mean that you won't be able to contribute in the future. Who knows how much content we'll need? 😉
Edit: To those who express interest, give it a few days. I'm going to round up a bunch and then select a few to respond to.

On a scale from 1 to 10, what are my chances, sir?
Im no journalist, so nothing can hurt.
I really can't put a number to anyone's chances. I have to read everyone's interested emails first. I'm gathering them all into a little pile and I'll start sending out responses to those who might be a good fit in a few days.
And so it begins, The Next Top PSXE Contributor. Only on A&E hehehehe
This would be an awesome opportunity for a journalism student. They could get hands on training that goes beyond what the classroom can offer. An article that's acceptable here could also be used as a class assignment, which can gain you job experience and a grade at the same time.
It wouldn't be double the work, but more like double the reward for your efforts.
That's like killing two stones with one bird.
Hmmmm. What do you guys think about Yours Truly trying out?
Go for it. I read quite a few articles you wrote for Velocity Gamer and I thought they were of good quality.
Do it, DO IT!
Gimme some thumbs up my friends 🙂
World,
I wouldn't mind one bit if you gave it a shot since your comments are almost always great to read.
Absolutely you should elect for this World. I say if you're pining to get into this field this is a 'must-try' opportunity.
Me, right now I'm too encumbered with my other ambitions to take on something like this.
Alright then, "Let's mosey."
Absolutely. Your posts are some of the very best on this site. I'd love to hear more of what you have to say.
Yeah world you could totally be the next John Shepard
You know you got my support.
🙂
I was one of the two that gave you a thumbs down.
Psyche. Thumbs up from me bro!
Go for it World. I love reading your stuff. Also, The Highlander is a wonderful writer.
For some reason, I always imagine you two to have grown up since the dawn of gaming. You seem far more mature and endowed….in the knowledge and discussion of this art form.
Appreciate the support, I've tossed in my lot with some of the best.
You're the only obvious choice in my opinion, World.
Great opportunity for someone. I know a lot of people in the forums and comments who would be perfect. Theres a lot of talent around here, thats been here a long while.
So Ben are you bailing for good or are you going to stick around, just to a much lesser extent, going forward?
oh, I misread tether for tenure. oops.
Yeah, I'm not going anywhere. It's just that the demands are too much for one person, even as fast and efficient as I am. 😉
And with the next generation coming, no chance I'd keep PSXE at the required level of coverage by myself.
Ben, I am often amazed that you are able to put out five, six, seven, even eight plus articles each day, six days a week, plus have time to play all the games and write reviews for them too! Good luck!
Yeah, it's more like 8 or 9 articles a day six days a week, with around 15 previews and reviews a month, 7 or 8 newsletters, more than a few batches of screenshots, a bunch of features/editorials, a few interviews thrown in, updating Twitter and Facebook, and oh yes, general management of the site itself.
Translation: I just can't do it alone anymore. 🙂
Good luck recruiting Ben, am sure you'll get a heap of great candidates :).
Bring back Arnold, miss that guy!
We all do, but he has moved on.
I tried to send an email but it keeps giving me the 505 error. I give up, 🙁
That's test #1: Being able to send an email. 🙂
Wish I had the time.
Good luck Ben. You've been working very hard to make this community what it is today I hope you find what you're looking for.
I wish that I can, but like Dukemz, no time.

I know this is off topic, but I know plenty of you will love to hear this…
Yoichi Wada has stepped down as president and CEO of Square Enix!!!
After a 13 Billion Yen loss, and less then stellar sales of recent Final Fantasy games, other console games and arcade machines, Wada has decided to step down!!!
Final Fantasy fans rejoice!!! Wada is no longer in charge of driving our favourite RPGs into the ground!! Here's hoping the new CEO will do a better job and actually LISTEN to the fans.
this sounds like a lot of fun. But I think there are so many great contributors here that I think whoever Ben selects would be able to give far more content than I could. I'm not even sure how quickly I can get a ps4. So I probably won't apply either. Wouldn't want to let all you fine gents and ladies down! Better leave it in someone elses capable hands.
Actually, the ones I thought would fit the role was World, Temjin, Highlander and you Underdog. I'm sure I'm missing one or two more…
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I wanted to apply, but I'm a little worried I wouldn't be able to contribute as often as someone else. There's so many great people here to pick from anyways that even if I did, I might not be picked!
I would love to do some reviews for this site. I always wanted to get into game journalism but it always seemed like a hard thing to break into. I hardly have a shot on this website because Ben and I argue a ton but I'll give it a shot none the less 🙂

'sigh' I knew this was going to be difficult. Already got 10 interested people and most of them have perfectly legitimate claims to being a contributor. It'll be hard to narrow this down!
Just don't take it personally if I don't pick you, 'kay? 🙂

You could just pick them all and then go on vacation! 😉
Certainly not, I don't envy you your decision.
Lol, if I were to apply, all I would be good at are GT news, reviews, and previews. Kiddings aside, I know several members here who are a good fit, so I think this site is already in good hands. Best of luck to those who applied and to the future of this great site.
If I could travel and have more time, I'd give some contributions on my digital media experience on a volunteer basis. I'm visioning that some day this site will have some of its own video stuff whether it'd be reviews, interviews, discussion, previews or such.
Sign me up! I hope we can work something out, Ben. And good luck to everyone who is interested! It would be really cool to have a few voices added to this site, I think…
I dont see how it could be a bad thing.
It sounds like PSX Extreme is going to host a wonderful assortment of voices. I wish those selected the best in providing insightful views for the gaming community! Good luck!
Wow…up to almost 20…I may have to take four or even five, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all. 🙂
The deadline isn't until at least tomorrow, right?

Well, with this many already, I don't need many more. Tomorrow afternoon I'll start making my selections.
