Is PSX Extreme Going To Review Astro Bot?

Just gonna say it; yes we do have a review of Astro Bot in the works. It’s late because we do not get first-party PlayStation codes on a consistent basis and our reviewer purchased a physical copy so we had to wait until that came in and now that it is, he’s well into playing it.

Furthermore, considering the nature of the game — a love letter to everything PlayStation, we wanted to make sure this review was done right and if that means being late, so be it.

Just wanted to mention that as I’m sure many people are interested in knowing whether or not we will be reviewing it and when it is due out. While I can’t say exactly when it is to be released, I can say with confidence; PSX Extreme is reviewing Astro Bot.

Merry Christmas From PSX Extreme

Merry Christmas, PSX Extreme

Hey everyone, we here at PSX Extreme wish you a Merry Christmas. Brick-and-mortar holiday sales are slowly winding down and all those Christmas jingles are playing in all the malls and stores across the US for that last day of people scrambling for good Christmas deals.

For this Christmas, I want our readers — that’s you — to chime in, what were your holiday deals if any? Comment down below or head on over to the thread!

Admittedly, mine are a bit all over the place, but here they are. I bought Gotham Knights, which is kinda the reason I had the opportunity to review the game in the first place. Others that I picked up for no other reason than “it’s on sale” included The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition for the PS5, The Last of Us Part I for the PS5, and Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

Stepping outside of PlayStation, I finally picked up Void Interactive’s Ready or Not, which has been a game I’ve debated getting for some time now. I like shooters, it’s just the online aspect that throws me usually, but having gotten back into Overwatch, I’m willing to take the risk of being the worst player in the lobby every now and then.

Anyway, Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate)!

What PSX Extreme Really Thinks Of The PS5 Design

PS5 Design

It’s the following day after Sony’s recent The Future of Gaming event, which among other things, revealed the PS5 design. What did PSX Extreme’s core crew think of this change in direction?

Ty Harvey – Editor-in-Chief

The PS5 is seemingly going for a forced futuristic aesthetic. Cool. Neat. Now if only the rest of my living room was from the future, too. Unless the PS5 projects a hologram to hide every other black box sitting under or beside my television, it’ll just end up being an eyesore. No idea what Sony was thinking here.

Christopher D. Anderson – Managing Editor

Does it look good? Maybe. Is it going to fit in with anything in my entertainment center? Definitely not. It’s a radical design for sure but so was the PS2. I can’t quite get behind the white though. Am I going to get it? Probably.

Gabriel Stanford-Reisinger – Lead Contributor

I think the PS5 design looks like a bit of a far cry from the norm of Sony’s flagship console. It looks interesting and could be cool, but I don’t know if this was the generation to decide to go against the usual grain of its design template. If we look to Xbox, they’re doing the same thing, going against their normal template and making something that belongs under a desk or beside it hooked up to a monitor. Sony could’ve capitalized on just keeping the PS5 similar to the PS4, keep it similar to something people know.

There you have it, there’s what the core team of PSX Extreme thinks of the PS5 design.

PSXE’s Crazy Double-Dip Game Of The Year 2014 Giveaway

You've never seen a giveaway like this before (we don't think).

Suffering from the post-E3 letdown? Looking at sort of a bare summer for gaming? Well, your favorite websites continue to function no matter what's going on in the industry, so here's what we're going to do:

We're going to hold a giveaway contest and the winner will receive:

— A new copy of the game PSXE chooses for Game of the Year (GotY Awards typically decided on January 2 or 3)

— A new copy of the game YOU chose for Game of the Year

That's right, two brand new games, shipped right to your door. This will be a random drawing, and we'll be selecting the name from our community. In other words, we'll dump all the registered names for the site into a big ol' virtual bin and extract a winner at the end of the year. Between now and then, you can improve your chances of winning by doing the following:

1. Recommend PSXE to a friend, and get that friend to check us out: Either you or your friend sends us a quick email at bdutka[at]psxextreme.com just to let us know you traded info, and that'll get you a little farther toward the prize.

2. Contribute to the comments on the main page: Sign up and have a chat with our laid-back, knowledgeable community! Maybe even write a user review if you're so inclined…

3. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook: Our social media is updated daily with highlights from the site, so check it out!

That's it. The only other requirement is that you have to reside within the US to be eligible. Yeah, we get that this annoys people but we have the policy in place for a reason. And remember, you don't have to do everything listed above; hell, all it takes to be entered into the contest is a registration at the site. Anything else is just gravy and might boost your chances.

Take your time, but we'll keep this on the front page as a reminder. We've handed out all sorts of things over the years, from specially colored consoles to games to collector's items. Time to kick it up again. 🙂
