PlayStation Store Down For Maintenance

If you're wondering why you can't access the PlayStation Store today, here's why.

Sony is performing some required maintenance today; it's so they can upgrade the software for the Store. As such, service has to be interrupted between 5 a.m. PT (8 a.m. ET) and 9 p.m. PT (12:00 a.m. ET).

If you signed into the PSN prior to the downtime, you may be able to play games online and use apps, but if not, you're gonna have to wait. By the way, this maintenance has been going on since February 27.

Here's the official message:

"During this maintenance period, you may receive a message that states 'Sony Entertainment Network is undergoing maintenance' when attempting to access the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Home. If you have signed in to PSN within 5 days prior to the start of maintenance (meaning: any time since February 27th), you may be able to play games online and enjoy apps such as Netflix, HULU Plus and Music Unlimited during this maintenance period."

Oh, you can live without it for a day. And at least we know what it is, so a bunch of alarmists don't go freaking out because something on the PSN isn't working. Sony may never fully recover from that debacle, as memories are long when it's such a huge deal.

Don't forget, y'all, that today's the last day for getting a psn+ membership for 49.99 with 3 months free. You can sign up on Sony's site, if I'm not mistaken.

I am mistaken. You can't sign up online or over the phone. But I believe the promotion is still going on until the next update, so theoretically, even past the forecasted date reopening date time 9pm pt/12 am et.

Store's down for the day? God Sony is a such a crap company. I never have to worry about any of this crap on Xbox Live. Sony needs to get their act together if they want to think they're a top not company.

He He.

It is so true that gamers will never forget the PSN debacle. The length of the outahe and extent of the hack will make sure of that. It was surprising to learn they lost info on every single account they had on PSN and Sony Online Entertainment. You would think periminter defenses would notice that much data being moved and Sony would pull the plug. It was painful to go without MP gaming for so long. No doubt about that.

Sony was slow responding to the hack. I remember the open letter Ben wrote to Sony stating that they needed to say something. Poor crisis management on their part. By remaining silent for so long they let the media shape the story and only intensified the negative nrews coverage. Anybody involved in politics and crisis management will tell you that you need to respond quickly to a scandal or crisis or risk looking incompetent. I'm certain Sony has protocols in place now for dealing with a crisis.

There will always be hackers. It's Sony's responsibilty to maintain a secure network. As far as I know they have done that since restoring the network. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I do give Sony credit for securing the network and giving us two games through the wekcome back program.

Speaking of PSN. Vanquish is now free to plus members. You owe it to yourself to play this highly overlooked game that features some the most intense and tight gameplay that you find this generation. It's not perfect. The story is forgettable and the game is too short. None of that matters when the game is free.

Not sure anyone has posted this prob before but everytime the system is down for maintenance and I unknowing log in to get to the store, it gives the message its under maintenance with the option to exit the screen.

PRoblem is I cannot exit the screen. I have to shut down my PS3 and reboot it. Its not frozen the PS3 entirely, it allows me to shutdown the PS3. Its nuts.

Anyway…. Keep playing!
