PSN Scheduled Maintenance Today, Will Last About 2 Hours

I'm absolutely certain you can find something else to do for a couple hours.

But you should probably know that this is scheduled maintenance and not an unexpected outage, because the latter really gets people talking when it involves the PlayStation Network.

Sony has announced that the PSN servers will be offline for two hours as the company completes "regular maintenance for the online network." This process begins today (April 18) at 9:30 p.m. PST and as the work is estimated to take around 2 hours, expect services to be restored around 11:30 p.m. PST. If you've got an existing account, you'll still be able to sign into your PSN profile, play games, and use most applications. But you won't be able to access account management, PlayStation Video, or the PlayStation Store. As Sony explained:

"We apologize for any inconvenience. We strive to ensure that PlayStation Network services are available at all times, but occasionally we must take PlayStation Network offline to perform essential maintenance and implement feature enhancements."

The company added that they continue to work hard "to reduce the duration of each maintenance." Frankly, I almost never notice. If I am playing a game, it's almost always offline, anyway; otherwise, I'm reading.

Yes, The PSN Is Down…So Go The Fu** Outside, Please

Now I'm starting to worry.

Let me start by saying this: The PlayStation Network was experiencing issues and I didn't notice. Why? I have a life. I'm busy.

I actually found out because a friend of mine said one of his coworkers was totally losing his sh** because the PSN had been down for "over an hour." Apparently, he was actually throwing stuff at the TV. Of course, that's an isolated incident so I shrugged it off and didn't think too much about it. Then, on my way home, I was in Target getting a game-related gift and I overheard one of the employees bitching endlessly about how much the PSN sucks, and why he "can't even use it anymore."

…something is seriously amiss. The people I know who have lives really weren't aware of this PSN issue and if they were, it would have little to no impact. If your life is so dramatically impacted by this, you need to reevaluate and re-prioritize. Rapidly . Yes, I know it can be very frustrating and yes, I believe that when you pay for a service, you expect it to be reliable. But "reliable" is a very relative term, is it not? Whenever I want to use the PSN, it works. Almost always. 99 percent of the time. Usually, when it's down, I don't notice because I don't spend my entire life online. And when I do notice, I do something else .

After Hurricane Irene swept through all those years ago, I enjoyed seeing the result. So much so that I wrote this article . Maybe somebody needs to pen something similar for when our precious PSN disappears for a few hours.

PSN On And Off Again Over The Weekend

According to multiple reports from gamers around the Internet, the PlayStation Network was iffy all weekend.

Many had trouble connecting while others said they kept getting knocked offline. Sony was doing some maintenance at one point but the connection issues seemed to persist beyond that maintenance.

Sony did confirm problems with the Account Management and PlayStation Store, which were giving some people fits over the weekend. It's hard to download a game when you can't keep a connection in place, you know? And of course, every time this happens, everyone worries that something worse is going on because…well, because unfortunately, Sony has earned that reputation.

Still having trouble signing in? Or are you back online?

PSN Undergoing Regularly Scheduled Maintenance This Week

Just so you know, it's regularly scheduled maintenance.

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Network will undergo some maintenance on Thursday, January 15 for about four hours, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. PDT.

Sony will be deploying "a series of back-end improvements to the network," which is what they usually say when such maintenance rolls around. The good news is that you might not even notice anything, because if you signed into the PSN before October 8, you'll still be able to play games online and access various apps like Netflix. It's just that the Store, PlayStation Home (which is almost done for good, anyway), and the Account Management option won't be available.

"We thank you for your patience and support and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

PSN Down For Maintenance On Monday

You want the Network to run as smoothly as possible during the holiday season, right?

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Network will be brought down for maintenance on Monday, November 17.

They'll be deploying "a series of back-end improvements" and this will take about 6 hours, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET. However, if you've logged into the PSN any time between November 13 and November 17, you'll still be able to play games online and use apps like Netflix. It's just that the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and your account management info will be inaccessible during the maintenance period.

Let's just hope everything goes as planned. Wouldn't want anything bad happening the day before Far Cry 4 , LittleBigPlanet 3 , Dragon Age: Inquisition and Grand Theft Auto V (PS4/Xbox One) arrive.

PSN Goes Down For Maintenance On October 13

Mark your calendar, just so you know what's going on next week.

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Network will undergo routine maintenance on Monday, October 13. This will take about 7 hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT.

This is when they'll "deploy a series of back-end improvements to the network," according to Sony's website .

If you've signed into the PSN since October 8, you'll still be able to play PS4, PS3 and Vita games online during the maintenance window. You can also still have access to apps like Netflix. Just remember that the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management features won't be operating. Well, that's okay, we're sure you can live without 'em for a few hours on a Monday.

"We thank you for your patience and support and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
