Koch Media, Deep Silver Acquire IP Rights To Saints Row, Metro

THQ has been trying to sell their assets and today, a couple have been picked up by Koch Media and Deep Silver.

The company that brought you Dead Island has acquired the intellectual property rights for two of THQ's best franchises, Saints Row and Metro . They've also nabbed the Chicago-based studio that used to be under THQ's flag, Volition.

Therefore, moving forward, Deep Silver will handle "all further development and marketing" on the two aforementioned franchises, each of which has managed to sell millions of units worldwide. Said Koch Media GmbH CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz:

"Koch Media welcomes the addition of these magnificent franchises to the Koch Media family of entertainment properties. With more than 200 games on notable platforms globally, and its proven success creating renowned franchises like Dead Island, Deep Silver is perfectly positioned to lead these brands into the next generation of interactive entertainment for fans around the world."

Deep Silver COO Geoff Mulligan added that the Saints Row and Metro franchises "hold a special place in the hearts and minds of anyone who loves exceptional video games," and the company is "thrilled to usher in a new era." There's no doubt that the addition of the talented Volition team will help as well. We're all anticipating Saints Row 4 at some point and Metro: Last Light is slated to launch on March 31. Here's hoping Deep Silver has some success with future installments.

Deep Silver really picked up the Cream of the Crop with those 2.

So now I'm wonder what going to happen with Homefront 2 that Crysis has been working on.
Maybe Crytek can(& will) buy the franchise rights outright.

Yep they bought it.

I am glad all of the franchises are living on. Its sad that THQ got shut down right after they started putting out good games.

Nobody bought virgil and the darksiders franchise but some of the people at platinum games said they would love to buy it cheap. They contacted some of the staff by twitter and offered them jobs.

Oh my god, can you imagine how sh*tty the Darksiders games would be if they became 100% action?

@world But the games were already sh*tty. In all serious though Platinum consist of the people who made Okami, a zelda game like darksiders, so i'm pretty sure it wont be 100 percent combat.

Look what happened to Revengeance when they got it.

YES!!! These two franchises are safe for now and perhaps Saints Row 4 will have an even bigger Zombie addition. I wish SR3 had kept the swarm mode from SR2.

Looking forward to Metro a lot too, the atmosphere is right up their alley.

The Sega purchase made me the happiest of all the transactions. Hopefully Saint's Row and Metro won't suffer too much because of this either.

I'm cautiously optimistic now in regards to Saints Row. I have to say that Dead Island is pretty darn trashy, so this developer kinda fits the Saints Row style. 🙂
