Saints Row, Red Faction Lives On, Says Deep Silver

Volition, Saints Row, Red Faction, Deep SIlver

Former parent company Deep Silver has assured fans fans that Saints Row and Red Faction will live on. In case you haven’t heard, developer Volition closed up shop recently.

Following a heartfelt message on X, Deep Silver joined the chat to pay respects and reveal that the IPs will live on over on PLAION, so the franchise is not completely dead in the water.

That said, PLAION is a part of Embracer Group, which, considering it’s undergoing serious restructuring due to financial struggles brought on by a massive shopping spree, it will probably be a while before we see a new entry to the niche hit Red Faction or a new entry to Saints Row, considering the middling reception of last year’s reboot.

What do you think? Are you happy that these long-running franchises will live on, even if it’s not with Volition at the helm? Let us know below!

New Saints Row Reboot To Have The Series’ “Most In-Depth” Character Creator

Saints Row reboot

Last month, it was announced that a Saints Row reboot was in the works over at Volition and Deep Silver. During a tirade on Twitter, the two dived deeper into the nitty-gritty of the entire project. This includes the likes of the return of a fan-favorite feature of previous games, excluding the last two entries, that is — a character creator.

Unlike its last two entries, which bizarrely omitted the feature, you’ll be able to customize your very own character and according to the team, it’s gonna be big. When answering the common question, they noted it to be the most in-depth character creator in the franchise’s history.

On that same note, they also mentioned how there will be, by default, eight different voices — four male, four female — for The Boss. This marks the most voices for any Saints Row title, no doubt, this is going to be a unique turn for the franchise, but fans can have hope it’ll return to its roots considering the fan-favorite feature’s return.

Saints Row IV “The End Of The Saga”

Saints Row IV is slated to launch on August 20 in North America. But what does the future look like for the over-the-top open-world franchise?

Well, it'll be interesting to see how the fans receive this news, because Saints Row V – if there is one – could go in a very different direction. Series director Scott Phillips told Gamereactor that the upcoming title marks the conclusion of the current saga:

"We're definitely considering Saints Row IV sort of the end of that saga of this character and the Saints as they are. So if there's any more future Saints Rows–which you know we always hope there will be, we hope there's fans for future games like that–they will probably continue in a different direction."

Saints Row has been developed by Volition, and the games were published by now-defunct publisher THQ. Deep Silver parent company Koch Media bought the Saints Row IP for $22.3 million during a January auction. But the question is, do you want the series to change after the fourth installment? Or would you rather it stick to what it does best?

You Might See Movies Based On Saints Row And Metro

Deep Silver wants to go Hollywood. Or at least, several ideas to do so are on the table.

In speaking to VentureBeat , Koch Media (parent company of Deep Silver) CEO Klemens Kundratitz said they're looking into exploring film opportunities for all its franchises.

So that means movies based on Saints Row and Metro are very possible, as Kundratitz said that "if a company can deliver that transmedia experience, we are probably one of the few that have the ambition and ability to deliver that." Deep Silver recently picked up the Saints Row IP from the now-defunct publisher THQ and Saints Row 4 is due later this year. Metro: Last Light is set to release next month. Kundratitz did remind everyone that these are "long-term strategic goals." Also don't forget that a Dead Island film is already in the works.

A "Saints Row" movie would be absolutely downright totally insane . If it was done faithfully, I'm not even sure it could squeak in with an "R" rating. That sucker might have to be NC-17 or something.
