Firesprite Is Developing Until Dawn 2

More fuel has been thrown into the fire of Until Dawn 2 being a thing under PlayStation’s Firesprite. We suspect Supermassive Games working on Little Nightmares 3 has something to do with the dev change.

XboxEra co-founder Nick “Shpeshal Nick” Baker remarked on Twitter that he knew about the sequel to the 2015 PlayStation exclusive and is sour that he wasn’t the one that broke the news. Notably, this rumor stems from 2022 when it was rumored that the studio was working on a triple-A horror game. It could also tie into a previous report from earlier this year.

Naturally, as with any leak, caution should be taken, especially since Baker doesn’t have the best track record, but does have a solid enough record that he could be right on the money.

PlayStation Controllers Can Be Used As Surgical Instruments

DualSense

We doubt Sony had any intention on surgeons using its DualSense controller line when revealing it way back when, but that’s exactly what’s happened over in Switzerland. Additionally, an endoscope was performed with the PS3’s Move Controller.

In a report from Fox News, the Swiss surgeon performed the operation, which was on a pig all the way in Hong Kong, with the help of a live video feed. Obviously, this could be a huge win for the medical field, we just find it funny that it all stems from the PlayStation’s controller line.

The procedure was performed with a robotic system and magnetic endoscope connected to a direct WebSocket protocol. While the PS3 Move controller is getting increasingly more rare, the demonstrations showed progress with DualSense controllers, which are infinitely more available than Sony’s attempt at a motion controller.

The surgeon was able to keep latency at around 300 milliseconds, which is comparable to a standard operating setting. Again, this is a wildly random thing, but it’s kinda cool that the DualSense is making waves beyond the gaming sphere.

Horizon Online Is Guerrilla’s Next Game

Studio Gobo

Horizon Online looks to be Guerrilla Games’ next project with “a lot” of people working on it. A third entry is also likely in the pipeline, but it’s a ways away.

Game journalist Jason Schreier alleged on an episode of Spawn Wave that the live service Horizon game is the studio’s next product. Now, Horizon Online isn’t a new thing as reports of the game have been pretty frequent until it was officially confirmed that Guerrilla was working on an online multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe.

The game was officially announced to be in development back in late 2022 after connections were drawn while the studio sought staffers with live service experience. It’s actually rather impressive Sony is moving forward with Horizon Online with the failure of Concord fresh in players’ minds.

Palworld Finally Arrives On PS5

Palworld, the open world creature capture survival game that is currently facing the ire of Nintendo lawyers, is now officially on the PS5. This isn’t a shock, but it’s certainly something to behold during a lawsuit.

During the recent State of Play, PlayStation revealed that Pocketpair, which has inked a multimedia deal with Sony, is finally bringing it to the PlayStation 5. Celebrating the release, they dropped a launch trailer on the Japanese giant’s flagship console’s YouTube.

Like we said, this isn’t too shocking, in fact, it was originally rumored to be revealed during the Tokyo Game Show before the list was modified, omitting Palworld’s PS5 version.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is suing Pocketpair over patent infringement while also not clarifying what patents the game has supposedly infringed. We’re sure more will come out of this, but we can’t help but find it funny that the game is releasing to PlayStation right after the suit’s been filed.

Stellar Blade Dev And Sony Sued Over Name

Shift Up coupled with Sony have been sued over the name of their highly popular PlayStation exclusive, Stellar Blade. Louisiana film production company Stellarblade is behind the suit.

IGN reports the US-based company filed a trademark infringement suit, claiming the film company is being damaged by Stellar Blade, the video game. Stellarblade CEO Griffith Chambers Mehaffey notes the film company has been around and kicking since 2010 with a website since 2011.

He asserts that the game’s reveal has made it difficult to find information about his business and claims that it’s “impossible” that Sony and Shift Up didn’t know about his established business of 15 years. He had sent a cease and desist letter to the developer after filing his own trademark in June 2023, though with timing in place, in January 2023 the game dev filed a trademark for Stellar Blade.

It’s hard to say where this goes, as it stands, Mehaffey is looking for attorney fees and damages.

New State Of Play Announced For Tomorrow

A new State of Play has been announced for right around the corner. The last event was the PS5 Pro technical presentation and the last SOP was back in May, which saw the proper reveal of the since shut down failed hero shooter, Concord, and widely successful Astro Bot.

Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog that this will be a 30+ minute showcase of 20 or so upcoming games for both the PS5 and its VR peripheral — the PSVR 2. As it stands, there isn’t anything that really points to what this State of Play might include. Rumors floating around indicate that Sony plans on revealing the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster as well as a Days Gone remaster, but especially with the latter, it should be taken with a larger than usual grain of salt.

It’ll be broadcasted in both English and Japanese and kicks off 3 PM PST tomorrow, so at least we don’t have that long to wait.
