New PS5 Console Update Tweaks Welcome Hub

On Wednesday October 23, Sony released PlayStation 5 update 24.07-10.20.00, adding tweaks to the relatively new Welcome Hub. The tweaks are the main changes in this update outside of the usual periodic system performance and stability improvements.

ComicBook provides the patch notes below straight from Sony:

  • Activities now display as In Progress, Not Started, or Completed, depending on whether you have ever started or completed the activity.
    • Potential spoilers will still be hidden.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.

The Welcome Hub has been a new feature in the PS5 console menu since last month, replacing the old Explore hub. Players are able to use the Welcome Hub to conveniently access the PS Store, track controller battery charge, monitor the console storage, and much more. It has also been most notable for offering customizable menu backgrounds, which is the closest to the PS5 continuing the use of menu themes that fans have enjoyed using on the PS3 and PS4.

What do you think of the new PS5 update to the Welcome Hub? What improvements would you like to see in a future update? Let us know below!

Bungie Joins PlayStation To Support All First-Party Live Service Games

Bungie

Bungie Creative Studios has joined PlayStation Studios to build the foundation and a creative team to support future first-party live service games.

Senior director, Bridget O’Neill, took to LinkedIn to firstly announce the move and her new position as the senior director at PlayStation Studios.

It’s frankly not too shocking that Sony is looking at reaping the benefits of a studio that has been in the live service market for so long. By and large, the model has been vital to Bungie’s work since the original Destiny launched in 2014.

In 2022, PlayStation bought the studio for that specific reason, after all, Sony continues to strive to make waves — and is currently failing — in the live service market. A mere year after the acquisition, Bungie faced round of layoffs, as well as eliminating 220 roles earlier this year, with 155 roles integrated into Sony itself.

Guerrilla Is “Done With” Killzone As A Team

Killzone: Mercenary

Guerrilla Games putting a focus on the Horizon series and leaving Killzone behind was a deliberate decision by the studio. In other words, it was done with the series as a team.

In a Washington Post interview, art director Roy Postma, a 24-year vet with the studio, revealed the team simply didn’t want to work on the series anymore, wanting a refresh and the much more vibrant and colorful world of Horizon was its way of escape.

“We were done with it as a team, as a studio, we needed to refresh the palette. It was, by choice, the opposite of Killzone.”

Unfortunately this paints a very bleak picture to the group of people who held onto the very slim chance of the series coming back, but unless Sony gives the project to another studio, we highly doubt the series will continue and its legacy has ended with 2018’s Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Arrives On PC Next Year

Sony is continuing its journey to capture a PC audience as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 arrives on Steam next year. Naturally features like new game+, extra suits, and Time of Day options come bundled in at the get-go.

Revealed on the PlayStation Blog, the PC version is heading to Steam on January 30, 2025, joining its precursor after a comfy two years of exclusivity on PlayStation 5.

The new version is being handled by first-party PC porter, Nixxes Software, alongside help from Insomniac Games and Marvel Games. It will also come featuring the same two editions, with its deluxe package more Photo Mode items, unlocking certain suits early, and more.

In our review, we had this to say: “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a great sequel, combining the old and new with a fresh story, iconic characters, and instances of taking a side step and playing as MJ. It might feel repetitive after a while and a bit on the short side. But, it’s a quality webslinging experience that everyone should have,”

PlayStation Announces Musical Tour Slated For Next Year

In a bit of a weird turn of events, PlayStation has unveiled a musical tour dubbed PlayStation The Concert. Tickets go on sale tomorrow and will reflect the long history Sony has with its exclusives.

As noted on the PlayStation Blog, some of the biggest and best tracks from its most notable IPs are going to seep into the concert. The event will be a world tour across multiple countries including England, Scotland, Republic of Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Artists like Ilan Eshkeri, Gustavo Santaolalla, Joris De Man, and Bear McCreary associated to Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us, the Horizon series, and God of War are all confirmed to be part of the performance.

At this time, though, only the Eruopean dates have been ironed out to the public, but fans have been assured that other locations will be revealed, such the United States. PlayStation The Concert kicks off on April 19, 2025 with over 200 cities planned to visit.

F2P Concord Rumors Surface Again

Speculation surrounding Concord and it’s possible return as a free-to-play game has surfaced once again. Considering the mass amount of money sunk into the hero shooter, it wouldn’t be the worst idea.

Firewalk Studios has been finagling around the Steam files for the game, as indicated by SteamDB. While none of this confirms anything, the fact even as recently as a couple days ago things are shifting around gives some level of “hope” if you had any desire for this game to succeed.

Now, of course, whether this will actually happen remains to be seen; the game failed to garner any sort of traction during its short time on the market, failed to stand out, and above all, seethed a generic feel. Of course, Sony could turn it around, but we’re not sure it could without a complete makeover.

Unfortunately, we’d suspect part of the new model entail some sort of Battle Pass, which the game notably lacked at launch.
