PlayStation Bid For Greatness Auction: Check The Winners

The idea was great: Use your hard-earned Gold Trophies as currency to bid on real items in a PlayStation "Bid for Greatness" Auction.

But sadly, as is so often the case these days, that good idea was marred by idiots who had to cheat . It's too bad, but Sony has taken the appropriate strides to deal with the issue.

And now that it's all said and done, the goodies have been given away (with a few winners still pending). Check out how many Gold Trophies were needed to pick up these great collectibles; the winners needed lots :

That's cool and all but I'm sorry, I didn't have enough time to compile that many Gold Trophies. In all honesty, I'm not sure I want to meet the person who does. That's probably unfair but, well…

“Greatness Awaits” Auction: Gold Trophies Are Your Currency

This is a very cool idea, wouldn't you say?

Sony has launched a new auction promotion that lets gamers bid on costumes, props and weapons featured in the new "Greatness Awaits" trailer that debuted at E3. It was to help announce the PlayStation 4, which will hit store shelves this holiday season.

There are 15 items available, but you don't use actual money. Rather, you bid on the items by using the Gold Trophies you've earned over the years. You won't lose the Trophies even if you win the item, so you don't have to worry about decimating your Trophy collection. A new item will go up for bidding every 24 hours starting today; the promotion runs through July 30 and you can expect new items every day at 1 p.m. PDT. The first item is the super sweet Black Hand outfit from Killzone: Shadow Fall , which is a one-piece jumpsuit designed to fit a 6-foot man. It might not be good for picking up chicks, though.

Future items will include an infected Clicker costume from The Last Of Us , a Dragonborn dagger from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , and a Captain Kenway outfit from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag . See anything you like? More importantly, do you have the Trophies necessary to win…?
