Arrowhead Game Studio’s CEO is praising the community for voicing their displeasure in the PSN account Helldivers 2 debacle. At the last minute, Sony pulled plans to require Steam users link their Steam profiles to their PSN accounts to continue playing the shooter. The massive amount of backlash stems largely from people who don’t want PSN accounts or those who don’t live in a region where the service is available.
On Twitter, CEO Johan Pilestedt said he was “impressed” by the “willpower of the Helldivers 2 community” as well the ability to collaborate. While the act itself of linking Steam and PSN will still continue to be an optional feature, it won’t fall as a requirement, at least not with Arrowhead’s big hit.
Frankly, we’re not that surprised, the PC community is what made Helldivers 2 so popular, to begin with. Without the PC release, it wouldn’t even breach the top 20, much less the top seven highest-grossing PlayStation-published games.
