If you're a Metal Gear Solid fan – and really, who isn't? – you'll be picking up the upcoming collection.
But if you really want to brag to your friends about a limited edition steal of a deal, you gotta visit Zavvi .
Now available for pre-order, it's a Limited Edition version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection . You already know that we get MGS2, MGS3, and MGS: Peace Walker, and this package also nets you:
That right there is the definitive collection, is it not? The only downside is that when they say "limited," they mean it- only 4,000 total copies are being produced (each is individually numbered), so get your MGS-loving butt in gear.
Related Game(s): Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
My thoughts, exactly. For it being called the Definitive Collection, I say it's missing MGS1 in remake form. Oh well, it's still a good package.

I would love to fight Raven and Psycho Mantis in HD 😉
I'm all in for more goodies ; )
even though i already have mgs4 and the digital download of mgs1 i would still try to get this for the steelbook. i want uncharted 3 mostly because of the steelbook. something tells me it wont be cheap.
How much is this?
Tsk tsk tsk. This HD pack should've stayed exclusive to the PS3 and for a very good reason. The only reason why were seeing PS2 remakes was to make up for the PS3's loss of backward compatibility. All of a sudden, it's multiplatform, presumably to 'expand' their fan-base. Why do you see the need to expand with the re-release of a game that was released 7-8 years ago. I thought it was to make up for a lost feature. It seems now that developers are going to use this to make easy money. It's a shame to see Kojima go this path too 🙁
The collection is multiplatform for two reasons,1.Because MGS Rising is multiplatform, HD collections are always used to hype and ready fans for the next release in the series (I.E Rising). 2. MGS PW had very low sales (even for a psp game), it sold less than the crapy spin off series MGS Acid. So basically they are trying to get better sales for what was known in development as MGS5 Peace Walker.

Peace Walker had low sales because it was released when the PSP was nearing the end. Hardly any titles were being released and by the time PW came out, I'm sure a lot of people had sold their system due to no games coming out. I know I did… and that's why I haven't played Peace Walker yet. As for this set hyping up Rising, I don't see it. Rising's a completely new experience and nothing like the original series.
MGS Rising is a direct sequel to MGS2, the gameplay might be different, but the story is tied together. And as for why MGS PW had piss poor sales on the psp, i'd say that had more to do with piracy, but i don't really care why it didn't sell. People are confused or angry as to why the collection is multiplatform, i giving the most logical reasons i can think of for that.

Didn't they already release some of these games on the original Xbox and the Gamecube? If not the exact game, subsets like Subsistence and Twin Snakes.
I mean, these aren't all necessarily "exclusive" by any means so what's the huge problem?
@converton341. Yeah exactly, MGS2 was on the Xbox, MGS1 was on the PC as well as the ps1, and MGS3 was coming to the 3DS before this collection was even announced. And something else, these aren't games being made from the ground up on the PS3 & 360, these are two ps2 games (and a psp game) having their graphics upscaled into hd. The 360's hardware limitations don't come into play here.

Yeah, MGS2 came to the Xbox. It was one of the few multiplats that was arguably better on ps2. The rain weather during the first act manifested sluggish play for Xbox gamers. That, and the black and white buttons weren't as accessible on the controller relative to the DS2

True, but M$ said that they didn't see any point in releases (which was why they discontinued their Xbox originals). The whole PS2 released started with God of War and was then moving into SOTC and Prince of Persia. Somewhere along the line, the developers wanted to make more cash out of this by going multiplatform and M$ (who LOVES money) had to jump in on it.
I don't think ms cared if the collection was multiplat or not. Anyway, there are two reasons to make a ps3 exclusive. 1. To sell PS3's, and 2. Utilizing the hardware (the cell processor), HD collections exclusive or not don't utilise the cell. As i basically said before this collection is a re-release not a remake of the games. The graphics would not have been MGS4 quality even if it where exclusive, and it wouldn't of sold PS3's since the graphics appear outdated to most gamers.

My wallet is screaming in agony. As much as it hurts me, I'll have to pass it up. 🙁
Since MGS1 isn't getting remade, and I already have a copy of it for PS1, and I have MGS4, this isn't for me. But for anyone who hasn't played MGS ever, I think this deals perfect. It's like getting a box set of your favorite book series.
But even better.
That would be nice to have. I would highly recommend this to anyone that some how hasn't played MGS4. I guess this is a PS3 owner edition sor of thing. Since MGS3: subsistance includes Metal Gear 1 and 2 this package kinda gets it all. Excluding the spinoffs.
I don't need this and probably can't afford it but the bragging rights would feel nice.
This was up and gone already quite a while ago. Zavvi sold out of it around 3 weeks ago. It was 70GBP, though… so it would've cost over $125 easily to ship to North America. I debated this Steelbook for quite a while, but just couldn't justify the cost.
Anything like this will ALWAYS be highly sought after by hardcore fans. Whether they're gone or not doesn't mean the followers won't be checking eBay every once in a while. 😉
LOL! God, and I thought it was expensive on Zavvi?! Can't wait to see the inflated eBay prices! :O
I already have MGS1 on disk as well as MGS4, so this doesn't interest me. However this is a good deal for someone who does not have any of the MGS games.
They should patch MGS4 with trophies too.
Yes!!, I need more trophies
Kojima said he had something special planned for the 25 anniversary of MGS next year, i'm predicting either a trophy patch, or a MGS4 directors cut with trophies and 3D.
I would love to get this pack, but I have lots of doubt about getting it here in Mexico 🙁
Why can't I pre-order on the site? The only one that is for pre-order is the regular edition. Where do I go to pre-order this?
Nevermind. Found it. SOLD OUT! Damn. I love steal case games/movies and this would have been an excellent edition to my collection.
How come it's missing portable ops, doesn't that follow the story right after MGS3?
This is a little off topic, but at gamescom footage of MGS3 off of the HD collection was shown, it looks great. However the cut scenes where shown in a super widescreen format that allows you to see more of the action, the problem though is that the extra stuff being shown was never meant to be seen to begin with, and as a result some things just don't fit. The following week on the Kojima productions report, the host said that its not to late to change it, and that they are listing to the fans. If want the cut scenes to be in the 16:9 aspect ratio and fill up your widescreen (instead of having black bars at the top and bottom of the screen), head over to the Hideo blog and post your opinion.

Is there a Zavvi inm the US, I know its the company that took all the Virgin chains in the UK then flopped. But it this defintive edition is in the UK I WANT IT!
I'm getting it. 😀
But I also Would like to see the graphics picked up a little bit more. Mainly and would love to see PW look better. Even the way Snake walks, Ew. But I'm still getting this and going to enjoy it. But I can already see PW being the worst of the bunch. Which probably already known.
I can understand that, but PW basically falls in the line of the PSP remastered series, which means the graphics are smothed out and up resed, not redone, same goes for the other two. And if you haven't played PW before i think you will be pleasantly surprised. The story imo is much better than MGS3, and the gameplay is on par with MGS4, don't let the graphics fool you.
