Last year's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions was a good game, and we're hoping the next Spidey effort from Beenox will be even more entertaining.
Today, Activision and Marvel Entertainment, LLC have announced Spider-Man: Edge of Time , currently in development at the aforementioned studio and slated to arrive this fall.
No specific platforms were announced (strange), but we assume it'll hit the major consoles. Once again, players will step into two separate roles; although there are only two Spider-Mans this time instead of four, as Edge of Time boasts the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. You must "correct a timestream gone awry and prevent a catastrophic future brought on by the early and untimely death of Peter Parker." That's right…you gotta save yourself. Said Beenox Studio Head Dee Brown:
"At Beenox, we are constantly listening to the fans and looking for new and creative ways to innovate the gameplay experience for them. We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance."
The game will also boast a new "cause-and-effect" feature, "where players will see how the immediate and sometimes unexpected effects of their actions as one Spider-Man changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man." …man, what are they doing? Going all Heavy Rain in the comic book world? Well, this generation is all about choice and freedom, right? It could work out really well.
Stay tuned for early media and assets.

I liked the combat & overall gameplay in Web of shadows better although the voice acting in Shattered Dimensions was allot better. So is edge of time is kinda of a sequel or something or is it just a stand a lone title.

Y can't the Spiderman games be given to a great dev like Rocksteady.
You obviously haven't played Spideman 2 and Ultimate Spiderman last gen. Activision did a great job with those games last gen.
Spider man 2 is still one of the best in my book…..first game to let you freely web swing, web zip, and even slide down buildings on your knees! Ultimate was pretty cool, but Spider man 2 holds a special spot in my heart.
They should combine the gameplay mechanics from Spider-man 2 with the combat of web of shadows now that would make for one badass Spider-man game.

yeh spiderman 2 was great on ps2
Warner Bros. bought Rocksteady, didn't they? Warner Bros. owns DC, Marvel's direct competition, so they, personally, won't ever do a Marvel related game.
after the last few spider man games i dont know if i want to play another one. ill wait for reviews and then maybe rent it.
It better have free roam. No free roam = no buy
Personally I loved web of shadows, yes it had minor glitches and basically sub-par production values, but the gameplay was the best.
I hated shattered dimensions due to not feeling at all like Spider-Man and it was uber gimmicky.
All I can say to those Beenox guys, make us feel like Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. They are not the same and I just hope they get it right.
I dunno, Shattered Dimensions was the closest thing I've ever felt to being Spider-Man in a game. Web of Shadows was alright, but I really don't think the open world, sandbox game fits the superhero genre all that well.
I also thought that SD was the first Spider-Man game that wasn't a fighting game to nail Peter's personality. It was the only Spidey game that made me laugh out loud, which is what Peter does. Heh.
Open world games fit superheroes better than linear games IMO because they make you feel like you can go anywhere and do anything (just like a superhero in the comics). Just look at Spiderman 2. Its far better than Shattered Dimensions in my book because it made me feel like I could go anywhere and do anthing with Spidey, which in turn made me feel so much more like Spiderman.
EDIT: Oh, another excellent superhero open world game to mention would be Infamous.

Open world is the best setting for Spider-Man because it's the only way to properly web swing. The combat on Sd was nothing like anything Spider-Man does. Don't recall him ever going mike tyson's punch out on bad guys, dumb gimmick in a Spidey game.
Not to mention that in sd you could web swing when you shouldn't be able to and couldn't when there was no reason not to. The only Spider-Man who had the right voice and attitude was the amazing version which was well done, but the others were definitely wrong.
HEY! Square-Enix should make a Spider-Man game! That would be awesome!
…….just kidding :o) *shoots self in head just for thinking it*
I smell timed missions.
@MPBomber. Ever heard'a inFamous? 🙂 Trying to get myself into SD.
shattered dimensions had a great story, great setup but the switching from 1 universe to another destroyed it for me!
i wish we could go back to spiderman 2 that was a classic!
i so want a good spiderman game, so much fun swinging around the city doing really cool moves, bashing bad guys up!
but i honestly cant see that happening, i can see another disappointment just like all the others since 3 have been!
Give me a Static Shock game and i'll be satissfied.
