Autolog Combined With Customization In SHIFT 2

The Autolog system in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was both a fixture and a highlight, so it's no surprise to see it arrive in SHIFT 2: Unleashed .

If you're unfamiliar, the Autolog is a feature that puts you in constant contact with your friends. In addition to the game's standard targets and goals, you can also know how your friends fared on each race or event, thereby generating a lot of competition. You always want to set the mark for all your friends to beat, right? But due to the simulated nature of Unleashed , we can take another step… Check out this new video:

Yep, customize your vehicle in a way that lets you top the competition…the human competition, that is. EA describes the addictive element as follows:

"The revolutionary Autolog system lets you keep the Driver’s Battle raging by dynamically tracking your career progress, personal best times, and how they stack up against your friends. Amp up and enhance the social competition and compare driver profiles and career stats both online and through the Autolog iPhone app. Then share and comment on pictures and videos of your biggest wins, hottest cars, and most twisted crashes."

Okay, we need an Autolog feature in GT5 now.

"Okay, we need an Autolog feature in GT5 now."

While it's not exactly autolog, you can also keep track of progress of all your friend's career and driver profile, as well as share pictures, comment, and share your rides in GT5. You can even view/comment/mail everything on the PC or mobile phone, including remote races. We can't share replays yet, but I hope in the future, we'll be able to.

What really sets Autolog apart is the automatic notifications for every time your friend beats you at something. I would certainly welcome that, being a competitive person myself. In GT5, we have to check manually, which is always the first thing I do every time I boot up the game.

K, I just watched the video again. It's not automatic like I thought it would be, but it does TELL you if your friends beat you at something. Other than that, it looks like GT5 has everything else I see there (and more); records, friends, profile, gallery, news, settings (?). I don't see videos?… or does that go in gallery?

It looks like Autolog isn't as unique as I thought, but it does provide a better experience for competitive gameplay with its recommendations.

This is sweet. I really liked drifting in NFS Shift and this looks much more fun.

In shift, they had separate physics for drifting to make it easier. In this one, they're trying to do it like GT5 and Forza where it uses the same physics as racing/driving, but with all assists off. I hope they stick to their words.

So that means it's gonna be hard as hell. This is the real deal then.

Yup. I've been keeping track of the game in their blog. They've been boasting about their advanced physics and all the collaboration they're doing with real race drivers and drifters. They said its the most advanced and hardcore physics in a racing game to date.

Pretty bold statement, and something I would love to see and find out.

The more I watch of this game, the more impressed I am with it. I honestly can say that I wasn't planning on picking up another race title for awhile after GT5, but if the driving is good, I am in.

Yes, it is a rent/borrow for sure before to decide if it is a buy.

People may not want to admit this, but driving real fast in GT5 doesn't feel that fast. Shift 2's goal is to give me the feeling I'm flying down the highway. Shift 2 doesn't remind me of Shift 1 whats so ever which is a good thing. This actually looks like a legitimate contender, but I don't know yet. If the handling is close to GT5 or better, then this may be winner. I'm pretty sure it's going to be more competitive…NFS usually creates challenging races. Hope they aren't hyping their game up.

Maybe not…I won't know until it comes out. But as for now, I have a high hopes for it. Can't discredit something until you get your hands on it. And their are alot of things NFS can do to out class GT5…but will they actually do it…I don't know because I'm pretty sure they don't have enough experience in this field. And Shift was just awful.

how can you say that about a game you have not played?
GT5 was not that great, so i wont be surprised if this improves on it.
i really hope they kept the driver reactions from the first game, you know the slamming into walls then you can hear the driver breathing really deeply and the screen going all blurred.
really puts you into the drivers seat!

I'm not sure what you mean about driving fast in GT5 not feeling fast? If you watch a video of a race car at a certain speed, and one of GT5, the feeling of speed is indistinguishable. Now, in Shift they'd clearly amped things up a bit, but it was a semi-arcade racer, so it was all well and good. However, if they want realism in Shift 2, then they'll have to make their sense of speed more realistic. Just because it doesn't feel like Wipeout HD, doesn't make it not real ;).

This game is looking really good. It might get me to take a break from GT5, maybe. I will have to play it first before I buy.
