Atlus Starts “Super-Mega-Ultra” 50% Off PSN Sale

Black Friday is coming up soon and in the spirit of the sale-athons scheduled for the coming weeks, here's a little gift from Atlus.

Atlus has announced their "SUPER-MEGA-ULTRA" PlayStation Network sale, which means that more than a few great Atlus productions will be 50% off between now and November 29. Included in the sale are titles like Shin Megami Tensei: Persona and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable for the PSP, which has been received extremely well by the critics and loyal fans. If you're at all familiar with Atlus' comical press releases, you won't be surprised to read the following by Manager of PR and Sales, Aram Jabbari:

"We really started with a simple idea: what if we could spoil our fans for the holidays by cutting something in half. From there, it was basically a lot of late nights, major damage to office furniture, a couple of trips to the emergency room, and a few really beautifully sliced watermelons. Finally, we realized it had been under our noses the whole time: why not cut our games in half? Sadly, after destroying the last couple Demon's Souls Deluxe Editions in the office, we realized the BEST option was to cut PRICES in half, hence this sale, which we're calling, in full caps for maximum attention-grabbage, the SUPER-MEGA-ULTRA 50% off PlayStation Network sale. Things were harmed in the making of this sale."

Good stuff. If you're interested, log on to the PSN via the PS3 or PSP and check out the full list of discounted titles. Atlus has faithfully served their followers this generation, and PlayStation and role-playing fans hold this publisher in the highest esteem. Oh, but it's true.

Holy funky sex monkeys! I'm getting both of those for PSP.

Okay never mind, 20 bones is still too much for two rather old games. Can't believe they wanted 40 before.

I like the watermelon reference. That's a joke from someone in the know.

As for the sale, perhaps it is time to get P3 on the PSP.

LOL! I really enjoyed reading that.

Indeed, it is time to pick up P3.

P3 was fabulous. I went back after playing it and picked up the older Persona games and I am glad I did. The series is very good. If you like JRPG's you'll love any of the releases.

Excellent. Just picked up Crimson Gem, and will probably pickup two or three others before the sale ends. Freakin' awesome!

What's Crimson Gem all about?

It's an old school turn based JRPG that's been brought to the PSP and been given a spruce up along the way. This is the summarized game description from Atlus "OLD MEETS NEW IN THIS PURE JRPG EXPERIENCE FOR PSP! With beautiful, high-resolution 2-D artwork, novel battle mechanics, and a classic tale of fantasy, adventure, and heroism, Crimson Gem Saga delivers the pure, classic Japanese RPG play experience PSP owners have been clamoring for since the hardware's launch. Taking full advantage of the crisp, clear PSP screen and boasting a colorful, catchy musical score, Crimson Gem Saga is a blast from the past presented just as you'd expect a modern RPG to be. "

I have also read in an article or two that the Story isn't just the usual young man and friends save the world, so it sounds interesting from many angles.

Pretty much all of these JRPGs from Atlus are turn based, which is a reason to buy them all on it's own. Hexyz Force is a pretty standard turn based JRPG as well, apparently. Class of Heroes is more a single player dungeon crawler, but with tons of character possibilities.

You…don't…have…a PSP!?

My God man! What kind of PlayStation gamer are you!? No PSP!? OMG!

After checking the book of PlayStation Lore, The Law states that if you like JRPGs and you do not already own a PSP, it is mandatory that you obtain one, or become the subject to ridicule by your friends, family and fellow gamers.

Sorry, it's not me, it's The Law…

😉

Seriously, there are so many JRPGs on the PSP, if you like JRPGs there is no excuse for not having a PSP.

I do want a PSP but I am waiting for the PSP2, is that really a bad thing Highlander? I support Atlus enough with my Trauma Center collection!

You make a great point. I have to confess that waiting for a PSP2 is a decent option, although there are so many inexpensive ways to lay your hands on a used (but still pristine PSP) these days, and Black Friday (in the US) sale opportunities to snag a new one, so even if you're waiting for the PSP2, there's still a way to get in to PSP now with a minimal investment.

No I don't have a PSP. Really don't do much portable gaming anymore due to work and so on. Though I do play the original Final Fantasy on my cell phone while I'm at work lol. A PSP2 is a possibility but we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, I understand that. I don't do much portable gaming either, but I use it to get my turn based JRPG fix when I need one…

Now, if only I could use a DS3 to control PSP games, and connect it to the TV at the same time, I would be in heaven, because then I would have my JRPGs on the big screen with a real controller.
