Even if you're not the biggest fan of the genre, you have to admit that Treyarch and Activision are going all out with Call of Duty: Black Ops .
In the past, developer Treyarch has said there will indeed be a focus on the storyline, and they want to make the new CoD as engrossing as a full theatrical film. Well, some top-quality voice talent will certainly help: Activision has confirmed that both Gary Oldman ("True Romance," "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight") and Ed Harris will be featured in the hotly anticipated blockbuster. Oldman will be back to handle the voice of Viktor Reznov (from Treyarch's previous CoD installment, World at War ), and Harris will assume the role of CIA operative Jason Hudson, one of the main characters. Oh, and comic book writer David S. Goyer lent support to the script and writers; Goyer was involved with both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight . Oldman has done plenty of games before, including several Spyro the Dragon titles and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault . As for Harris, the well-known and well-respected Hollywood actor who has been in movies like "A Beautiful Mind" and "The Rock," this will be his first foray into the world of interactive entertainment.
As if this game needed more incentive to sell. Call of Duty: Black Ops is scheduled to hit store shelves like a ton of bricks on November 9.
Related Game(s): Call of Duty: Black Ops
It is very interesting to see how Hollywood deems it so important to get into the gaming act. Who would have thought 10 years ago that AAA Hollywood actors would want their names associated to games… for me is a remarkable event.
As Ben has always said in the past, the way gaming is going, it really cannot be ignored, and to be thought of as "shameful" wasting ones time being gamer when it is becoming the premier form of entertainment.
Films will have their place, but I think Hollywood knows where the future of revenues will come from… gaming!

Call of Duty anything doesn't strike my fancy but videogames deserve top notch actors.
Ha, i love Gary Oldman. Remember him in True Romance?
Haha
I love him in the movie Leon. That's his best role IMO.
Haven't seen it but i will watch it.
EDIT: wait, isn't Leon the Professional with Natalie Portman?

Hehe
Ya, I put Leon (one of the titles used for the movie) as an attempt to trick you!
No but I remember Zorg in The 5th Element 😉
and it WORKED! I have seen it. Though a very long time ago. Time to watch again.
Yes, True Romance… brilliant film. Have it and I should re-watch it.
I like Oldman in the "Book Of Eli" as well…

The Fifth Element
If only they spent the time to make a new engine for COD it would make it worth playing again
Yea, I mean if they changed the engine I would actually buy a COD game…too bad W@W, MW & MW2 were almost exactly alike because of the same engine
To be fair that engine got major enhancements for W@W. They did use the IW 4.0 enegine but amped it up quite a bit. Treyarch don't even call it that name and its not known as that name in their games either because of how they use it, and becuase of the major enhancements they make of it. They are using the W@W engine again for black ops but again have made some changes.
This time they are using a streaming texture technology that makes levels bigger and more possible. They also upped the Frames per second in W@W by enhancing that engine. So treyarch is making good use of it!
2 of my favorite actors.
Guess anti-vision's going all out in trying to beat their MW2 sales record.
So no Keifer this time? Gosh, bringing in voice talent like this won't change the fact that Treyarch's ability to make a coherent and interesting story is seriously lacking.
he kinda ruined it 4 me. sutherlands a joke
The story and campaign in W@W was much better than IW failed attempts, as much as I liked MW campaign.
oh big railer no way is w@w singplayer better on mp! i dont remember a single characters name from w@w it barley had a story u just jumped from battle to battle
Sorry you feel that way! 😉
Anyone that thinks either MW had a better storyline than W@W wouldn't know a good story if I smacked you straight upside the onion with a 400 page novel.
There was little to no storyline in either MW, no character progression or immersion and little in the way of vested interest in any of the characters.
IMO, W@W character immersion and storyline could quite possibly rival the Resistance storylines and I fully expect Black Ops to continue the excellence. I loved Oldman's character in W@W and can't wait to see what Treyarch does with Harris. AWESOME!!!!!
hey ben. question.
how come an article was never made about the multiplayer reveal 4 black ops? it definitely had some things worth mentioning, like wager mode, CoD Points, or the theatre mode.
i think u should make an article about it here at PSX.
He often caters PSXE news to its more common readers, and as past polls have showed, not many PSXE readers would give a huge crap about some multiplayer stuff in some multiplat. ;O

Eh…multiplayer and CoD don't really go over well 'round these parts. Besides, I never think news specifically centered on multiplayer is all that interesting. Sorry to anyone who believes otherwise but we can't make everyone happy all the time. 🙂
I give a crap about MP games. I like em and they add an extra dimension to games.
I think their is great arguments for both sides of the coin especially here at psxe mainly cus of how knowledgable, passionate, and/or eevn argumentative a lot of readers are. But at the same time the more news the better. I don't think thats a precise yet even fair assumption why Ben doesn't post news on FPS. But if its true, then so be it. But I do often read about COD, MoH, even KZ news first elsewhere mainly cus its hits there first. Which is a shame since this is the only site i visit daily.
EDIT: Apparently its true lol. 😉 Like Ben said, can't make everyone happy. Thats a damn shame!

I'm either a mind reader or I spend too much time here 🙂
That was hardcore World… 🙂

haha you would just get a load of stupid hate comments on it!
So let me get this straight. About 10 members who mouth off at CoD have ruined it for the other fifteen thousand members? Great. Thanks for that.
@Alienage
its much more than ten… but this site just lost sum credibility 2 me. i come here 4 unbiased gaming news, but articles about the MP of a sure to be extremely popular game aren't being made here because of people here who don't like the game?
i don't understand. a MoH MP article was made, but not a CoD MP article?
(EDIT) please explain the logic in this.

I've been here long enough to know that this site has credibility in spades. Don't let something simple like a missing news article get you down. If you were to up and leave, who would ask such pertinent questions?
See you online in November friend.
Two over the hill actors isn't gonna jazz me up about this thing. I like Liam Neeson as much as these guys but his wooden acting in Fallout 3 wasn't really required.
His wife died.
And he left me in the vault to rot.
Karma.
Nice, Oldman's been a favorite of mine since Leon the Professional and Ed Harris is always remembered by me from James Cameron's The Abyss, which I loved.
Having Goyer on board is a plus, too. He's not the world's greatest director, but he managed to make one comic book property better than any comic book the character appeared in with the Blade films.
Of course I'm from the opposite end of the spectrum around here. I like each of the CoD series more and more as they go. I disliked MW a lot, liked WaW a bit better, and loved MW2 — in terms of single player, I've only recently got into the multiplayer aspects of the series. So I might be a bit biased. I dunno.
Oldman and Harris, I don't give much a damn. But Goyer? Nice Treyarch!
I bi*** and moan about COD but I've pre-ordered this A) To play something with my real life friends and family as they don't partake in SSF4. and B) Curiosity, can it live up to the COD's I did enjoy 4 and WAW?
That said Gary Oldman signed on is pretty damn awesome as I'm a huge fan of Leon the Professional (and the Dark Knight.)
I can side with you on one thing, I'll probably play some coop COD with my xbot and gun nut friends, they can't play anything other than FPS anyway.
Edit: Oh yeah but I won't be purchasing it.

nice to see antivision are putting some serious money into this, doubt it will be much better than MW2 though.
it better be longer though, i swear to god if black ops lasts me less than 6 hours not only will it be my last COD game, it will be my last antivision game!
Good actors I really like them. alas I hate cod games so much.
why?
They messed up they should've got Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan for these roles. Just kidding!
"This movie's so good I think I'll pop a cap in it!"
You know, it just might work…
Ben, i have a question… the Win a Blue PS3 banner has been up for like 2 years now you chose a winner. CAN YOU PLEASE TAKE THAT BANNER DOWN! its driving me crazy
