Ben-DutkaHideo Kojima is a masterful video game designer. Metal Gear Solid is one of the greatest franchises of all time, period.
But what do you think about Kojima tackling the survival/horror genre? During a Twitch Q&A session yesterday, the MGS guru revealed that he'd like to work on a new Silent Hill entry one day. What do you have to say to that ?
When asked if there was a franchise he'd like to direct or reboot, Kojima named Konami's vaunted survival/horror series and added via translator:
"Hopefully sometime in the future I am able to work on this."
Best known for its creepy, atmospheric horror, Silent Hill is beloved among gamers who appreciate a good scare. The last installment, Silent Hill: Downpour , was something of a disappointment. If Kojima did work on the franchise, though, he said he'd have to prepare himself, as he'll have daily nightmares while developing the game. No surprise there.
Kojima also mentioned working on a mobile game but personally, I say his talents would be wasted on that medium. Stick to what you do best, and amplify your legend; don't diminish it with bite-size, dumbed-down entertainment for the masses. Personally, I think he'd make a fantastic Silent Hill entry…and here's a brainstorm: Invite Shinji Mikami ( Resident Evil creator) to take part. There's a dynamic duo!
That would be excellent. I'm totally for it.
Could make for some craziness. I'd definitely be intrigued to see what would come of it.
That would actually be quite interesting to see his take on a Silent Hill game. To see what intricacies he can bring to the series. I'm down for that.
Also if it's in his hands, one needn't worry about the game being defiled for the sake of mass appeal.
I waited outside a Best Buy the day SH2 came out. The series has been on a steady decline since SH3 but not nearly as brutal as RE5 and RE6. Anyways, yeah I'd love to see him add his touch to the series.
Is there any way to kill the baddies in The Room, or do they always resurrect? I wanna play it but I'm outmatched.
You can stomp and kill most enemies but the ghosts can't be killed but you can get swords that will pin them down for good.
So he's talking about this a second time? Now it is interesting. I hope he gets the chance.
Last few Silent Hill games were disappointments, not just Downpour, so yeah Hideo, go for it… break a leg.
But Shinji Mikami is the lead creator at Tango Gameworks (owned by Bethesda)… Just sayin'.
I'd be behind this. Anything to see something other than MG from Kojima. I want to see what else the guy can do.
I'm with you on that. I find the entire MGS story to be incredibly convoluted and it's run its course. Do something new and I'll be interested.

It would certainly get me back into the series. At first it was only decreasing in creepiness (for me), but it's been decreasing in quality since the third. And now it needs to be revitalized.
My love for Kojima is obviously a bias, but I think he would at least bring the series back to the forefront of relevance.
The series has been in a downward spiral for awhile so I would love to see what Kojima can do with it.
I'd like to play a Kojima influenced Silent Hill game. One that provides a mind bending narrative that isn't afraid to break the fourth wall.

I would say all he could do is make it improve. But I don't trust Konami or his publishing partners. It very easily could turn out like RE5 or 6 which I enjoyed but surely it's not what fans would want.

silent hills been down the shitter for years, and hes quickly losing his reputation as well, so whats there to loose?
we get the hope that we may finally get a half decent silent hill game and he gets a new revitalized career.
or the silent hill name stays where it is, dead in the mud, and after all the MGSV controversy, and spending years whining he wants to leave, his reputation couldnt get any worse either.
so, yea, again, whats there to loose?
His repurtation is better than your reputation here so why should he care when obviously you whine and b4$# in the majority of your post?

I wouldn't say that it's a bad idea. Kojima has a tendency to be a bit verbose but he does have a strong vision for his projects. Anything that he could produce under the Silent Hill name would have to be interesting.
This would be VERY interesting indeed.
Just imagine a survival horror with some stealth gameplay from him . Might be interesting and awesome
