Two New GT6 Trailers: Start Your Engines And…Astronomy?

Gran Turismo 6 should be one of the best games of the generation and ideally, the era's defining driving simulator.

We've seen plenty of footage thus far, but here's some more. The first video is a promotional Start Your Engines vid and the second details time transition and "astronomy effects," which is just way cool.

GT6 is scheduled to launch on December 6, which means it'll make for a fantastic holiday gift if you know someone who's a confirmed racing fanatic. These two trailers show off the game's high level of polish and gloss, and the sheer amount of time and effort Kazunori Yamauchi and the rest of the team at Polyphony Digital has spent creating the latest GT installment.

They've also said that GT7 might be only "a couple years" away but for now, let's just focus on GT6, shall we?

Thanks, Zak!

Love these trailers. Game looks amazing so far.

I'm still waiting (and hoping) for a PS4 version.

Please make it happen, Polyphony.

This is my last comment on this subject, but all I'm going to say that it would be a shame if this game doesn't sell as well as it should, just because of all these false hopes out there of a GT6 PS4 version. Then, next thing you know, GT7 arrives on the PS4, in turn skipping this gem.

bout' time I get to race moon rover buggies (2:32 first video) =p

It's like PS3 users are getting a PS4 game. It even runs at ~1080p @60fps

Yeah, I guess it took Kaz 15 years to finally reach the moon.

My biggest hope is if we can simulate what's it's actually like driving an actual car there. It's a whole different world out there obviously with aero and gravitation force being majorly distinct.

Kaz… just what do you have in mind?

But if it's realistic (as a simulator should be), you'll only be able to moon buggy for 57 miles at ~11mph. 😉

GT 5 ran at 1080p and 60fps, so this is really no surprise.

Passion can be measured by various means. With Kaz and Gran Turismo, it goes much beyond just cars and driving. It's about the complete experience and pushing the boundaries. I'm a sucker for attention to details that most probably don't care about.

With each track having a marginal error of 1 cm or less, simulating actual astronomical change for real world locations, pursuing Adrian of Red Bull to make a car without boundaries, collaborating with automobile manufacturers around the world, participating in prestige car events like Pebble Beach, modeling cars of next gen quality since 2007 (200k+ polys each), and actually participating in professional racing himself, there's no denying where his passion truly lies.

In a way, it's a shame that Kaz is being limited by technology. His vision really does go beyond a gaming console. That's why I am very thankful that he is associated with Sony instead of something else. I hope the PS4 will be enough to get him closer to everything he wants to achieve, that is pushing the virtual world ever closer to reality.

I'm a sucker too man. PC simulators, rFactor, iRacing can be as realistic they want but they don't have this kind of vision.

At the end of it all I'd rather sit down to play a videogame by someone who talks about cars allll day as opposed to a team obsessing over programming efficiency of the racing model (which is what Kaz's team is for and they do it well anyway).

I wish I could join the iRacing community but I don't have to money. Instead GT has the whole experience that makes a car enthusiast just a little bit excited to play the game after a week or two. It's professional. It's polished. Similar to how come dream cars are like 🙂

I just want to highlight some cool features here that I've never seen from the GT series:

– Accurate Astronomical effect and time transition for real world tracks/locations
– GPS logger – using your mobile device GPS to literally make your own route (e.g. home-to-work) into a game track. I think space is limited to 20X20KM atm if I'm not mistaken.
– Paint Shop
– Body Repair (damage may be permanent till repair)
– External Body customization that will grow over updates
– Suspension Vehicle Analysis
– Private Racing Club Online
– Official Online Tournaments
– Mobile Device Integration

Welcoming Returning features:

Dynamic Weather
Nitrous
Coffee Break!
Upgraded B-spec (through update)
Racing Gear
Karts
Improved Photo Mode (now up to 2 cars in photo locations)
Quick Match (online)
Seasonal Events
Improved Course Maker (update)

Other than that, I'm looking forward to the sound update, Vision Gran Turismo concept cars, Aryton Senna's Racing Career integration, and basically all the tracks and cars that will be added throughout the game's lifespan.

Also, there are two new Pikes Peak cars. I hope this indicates that Pikes Peak Hill Climbs/Downhill will return, since GT2.

Kaz and his team (PD) won't ever get praised as much as Naughty Dog or Rockstar, because it's just a racing game, but personally, in terms of pushing technology, I put PD alongside them, if not better. I'm not just saying that just because I'm a fan though. The technical achievement behind this game is insane. Just read into the resolution this game is running (up to 1440X1080p), the polys per car with up to 16 per track, the fps its achieved (up to 60fps), the dynamic lighting (night/weather) that games like Forza can't achieve yet even with the Xbone, the physics and calculations it runs alongside all of those, and you know I'm going to say this.. adaptive tessellation.

Games from Naughty Dog are insane too, but technical achievements doesn't seem as out there to me. Game such as Last of Us runs at 720p/30fps. Character models are no where near 200k polys, and it doesn't feature adaptive tessellation. I'm not putting them down, because they probably don't need to go beyond that, seeing as how beautiful The Last of Us turned out. I'm only stating the technical achievement each developer have achieved with the PS3. PD is at least on par with Naughty Dog. That much I know for sure.

I agree with this. GT5/6 is a magnificent technical achievement. You have to admit though, that TLOU and its ilk do a lot more with the image in terms of density, whereas the GT games offer a cleaner and more pristine environment meaning that less resources are used to render its features. Just pointing that out.

It feels strange saying it, but this is definitely to a next-gen standard in terms of what it actually does.

Having played GT6, I can vouch for the fact that it is truly amazing, and I do proclaim better than Forza 5 in its stated intent of being a better simulator. These trailers are brilliant and make it very difficult indeed for me to not pick it up… but time. *sigh* #firstworldproblems

It will be interesting to see the comparisons between GT6 and (the "next gen") Forza 5, and when it is released, Drive Club.
