Saints Row IV “The End Of The Saga”

Saints Row IV is slated to launch on August 20 in North America. But what does the future look like for the over-the-top open-world franchise?

Well, it'll be interesting to see how the fans receive this news, because Saints Row V – if there is one – could go in a very different direction. Series director Scott Phillips told Gamereactor that the upcoming title marks the conclusion of the current saga:

"We're definitely considering Saints Row IV sort of the end of that saga of this character and the Saints as they are. So if there's any more future Saints Rows–which you know we always hope there will be, we hope there's fans for future games like that–they will probably continue in a different direction."

Saints Row has been developed by Volition, and the games were published by now-defunct publisher THQ. Deep Silver parent company Koch Media bought the Saints Row IP for $22.3 million during a January auction. But the question is, do you want the series to change after the fourth installment? Or would you rather it stick to what it does best?

Well they wouldn't have bought it if they didn't hope to continue it, but part 5 should probably be a new saga with a new arc.

That is just *so* good to hear.

They went too far in the current direction. Now I got hopes for this franchise again.
Use the best Saints Row (SR2) as a starting point, keep the best parts of that game (fun map to explore, reasonably whacky and *excellent* coop gameplay) and take a different direction from SR3.

I agree. Use SR2 as the starting point. It was the perfect blend of humor and seriousness mixed in with tons of secrets and collectibles topped off with destructible enviornments. the game has so much fun factors. Starting the 5th one from that would be great

If you have a 360, then give the first game a try. It's a bit rough around the edges but I liked it enough to buy SR2 as a result. Still, it wasn't a match on Saint's Row 2.
Beam is right about the mix of tones in SR2 though. You could go from hurling yourself into traffic in Insurance Fraud to facing down Maero at the Ultor Dome. If I mention, "You should have offered me more than 20%" then you know the mission that I'm talking about. That one cutscene is just one of the most badass moments that I've ever seen in my time as a gamer.
I enjoyed the third game, but it just didn't work for me on the same level. You got the craziness but there just wasn't anything to counter-balance it. Not only that but it even feels like a step backward in some ways.

I hope this means the end of the low toilet humour this game has capitalised on.

No more purple dildo's please.

The over the top insanity of the game looks fun, but I am not the type to forgive the rest of the crap the game has in it.
