Activision Confirms A New Call Of Duty For Later This Year

Right, like you're surprised.

During a post-earnings conference call , Activision confirmed that a new Call of Duty title will launch this year. But there's an interesting catch- Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg says the company does not expect this new installment to perform as well as 2012's record-breaking Black Ops II .

However, in terms of quality, he says the new iteration will "raise the bar even higher," and CFO Dennis Durkin added that predicting the future is more difficult because of the "ongoing console transition." The currently unnamed CoD game will release during the company's fourth quarter, which of course runs between October and December. Historically, all new Call of Duty entries launch in November, so you can probably expect that to happen again this year.

Hot money's on Modern Warfare 4 , but that isn't official. Anybody else think this franchise could've taken a year off…?

Haven't played since mw2. Will keep an eye out to see if this new one is any good but I'm not too hyped. Hopefully it keeps giving the fans what they want.

They should take the year off, reboot the series and then come out with a kick ass next gen CoD.

Black Ops 2 is kick ass though. Best CoD game since Modern Warfare 2 (in my humble opinion).

I'm sure Tina Sanchez and her pancake flat ass are getting ready for another session of talking tough to horny, hungry 12 year-old boys who can't beat anybody in a casual shooter without cheating come November 2013.

You sound bitter and pathetic right now. I play CoD games and I am nothing like you described. In the same context, most of the people I hear online are well over the age of 20. You're clearly talking out of your ass. Grow up.

@ Nas

Whatever you say.

@ World

Tina Sanchez if the former community manager at IGN and 1up who is now the CM for Infinity Ward, the probable designers of CoD MW 4; unless Activision has a 3rd company creating a new series.

It's a shame these guys don't know how to patch their games correctly, COD multiplayer full of modders and hackers.

I think it would really, really be a good idea if they took 1 year off. The CoD itch will itch more and more and people wont resist and scratch. If CoD is to stay #1, it needs 1 year off.

There's very little chance of that happening. As long as CoD keeps selling like it is, why should they take a year off? You may not enjoy it but millions of gamers across the world do.

I agree with you guys Every COD game has been good on their own right. Definitely not bad but there's barely any progression BO2 had the most significant changes especially in the campaign mode But the annual occurrence is starting to grow tiring. I think its next release should be on next gen consoles even though it might remain as more of the same but with next gen graphics

There won't be a Modern Warfare 4. Mark my words. Modern Warfare series ended officially at Modern Warfare 3.

I wonder if this new Call of Duty will be one of the expected ones with a futuristic or space warfare…

They used to be better. Anyone here will agree that COD4 was an awesome game and wasn't over the top at all.

Yea COD4 was really a classic. That's why activision serves and repeats every year.
What they fail to realise is what made COD4 have such a big impact.
It was pretty groundbreaking when it came out. But making essentially a similar game, with slightly fresher coating, wears thin
I remember having MW4 on my radar when i first saw the trailers and playthroughs.
It's funny because i distinctly remember saying to myself "i hope this game gets recognised when it's released."

I wonder what the setting is going to be? I'm not surprised there is another one, this is going to keep happening until CoD stops selling which might never happen unless something way better, that appeals to those gamers comes along and dethrones it. Which is a daunting near impossible task I would say.

Maybe they will destroy themselves though. I think some gamers are getting sick of annualization and no not just me 😛

Remember Guitar Hero? I use to love those games. I feel like if they were released every 2 – 3 years, the series would have had more longevity.
COD wont and hasnt died so quickly but gamers will get tired of itIt's happening already albeit really slowly

Take a year off? why?
Everybody who buys it loves the annual release – why deprive the fans of what they want?

If its to give the other devs a chance – no – its up to them to make a game thats more fun to coax cod fans away.

If more time to develop would result in an even more fun game – then bobby should through another team at it full time (raven or sledgehammer) and let infinity ward and treyarch have a 3 year development cycle.

Booked the 2nd week of november off again so they better stick to our usual schedule.

LOL, "Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg says the company does not expect this new installment to perform as well as 2012's record-breaking Black Ops II." Based on how they have responded…or rather NOT responded to the utter crap that is BLOPS2, one of the laggiest, cheated, hateful to the PS3 crowd, pieces of crap I've ever seen dribble from the crack of Activision….I can't imagine WHY they are thinking their next release will be…an under achiever.

A friend of mine couldn't finish it due to freeze issues. Deleted game data… Everything. Still didn't work.

I have had it freeze on occasion during map loads in multiplayer, but I had no issues in the campaign. Well, aside from a really bad checkpoint save. (start over with a grenade between my feet…)

But there are people that report issues without support.

This is a frustration of mine, too. Why can't they test ping and download to select the best host? Simple. If you have dialup or something, you shouldn't be able to play online. The back of the box says you need broadband. That should be required our match make bad internet people together
