We all know that GameStop trade-in values often feel like a rip-off. And of course, for the most part, they are.
After all, we're talking about a company's pre-owned business that generates over $1 billion annually. But at least for the next few days, you'll get the best possible deals for your old stuff, and that could put you in a better financial position if you wanted to grab one of those new PS3 models.
If you're a PowerUp Rewards member, you can take advantage of better trade-in values for a variety of hardware. They'll give you $125 for your PS3, plus another $10 on a PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii trade-in that goes toward the purchase of the new PS3 Slim 250GB Uncharted 3 Game of the Year bundle.
The deals end on September 30, so you better get a move on.
*Stares at fat 360* Today might be your last day buddy
Woah. Maybe I should turn in my fat PS3. Obviously that seems like insanity on the surface but it's a system that I resurrected from YLOD and that could fail at any point. Do I get cash or is that store credit?
World,
GameStop always gives you more money if you do trade-in's as a credit vs taking it in lump sum cash.
But because this is a special deal, I'd check to make sure if it applies to this one too.
Hmmm, it's too bad there's nothing I need to get right now. Vita's still just too expensive for me.
If my hardware doesn't work, do they still give you something?
I doubt it Yukian but you could try to sell it for parts on ebay. Some people cannibalize the innards.
Don't do it, as good as this deal may seem to you don't do it!
Why not?
GameStop
Good answer LV. LOL
but but i don't want to trade in my 60g fatty PS3… *cries*
Having lost an original 60GB system to the GPU meltdown and now the refirb Sony sent us died in a similarly tragic manner, I'd say now was a really good time to give up that old 60GB system and get a 250GB bundle for more or less half price.
Highlander man, I could never go for a 250… I have a 320 right now and its almost full. lol. If I had waited to get the 250 I wouldn't have enough room for all my games, music, pics and my movies. I got every episode of the three stooges plus DB, DBZ and DBGT and some movies. lol don't listen to Highlander get the 500.
BTW I'm just messin with you Highlander.
lol LowKey, the answer there is easy, take the 500GB drive from the old 60GB (after all we all upgraded the HDD right?) and drop it into the new system – after doing a backup of course. Then restore. Voila, new slim PS3, 500GB drive, all ready to go.
I've shifted my thinking on older systems recently, not coincidentally because I just moved in with my girlfriend. Our home is not huge, clutter is the worst, and what the hell do I need a box of old systems I'm never going to plug in again anyway doing taking up precious closet space? I'm nostalgic for some of the games, sure, but I own most of my old favorites in downloadable form now anyway (and downloads, presumably, will continue to be transferable to new consoles down the line, at least for a while.)
But do I really have the guts to trade in my PS2? I mean, I LOVED that thing for so long. I still do! but it's just taking up space… hard to decide.
Don't trade your PS2 man..I made that mistake a few years ago..needless to say one of my worst decisions ever..luckily I friend gave me a slim but it isn't the same as my fat PS2
You'll kick your own ass later, I wish I still had my N64, NES, SNES, Genesis, 32X, Saturn, PS1.
GAH you're right. What I would give to have my old Genesis or Saturn back. I'm glad we had this talk 🙂
Still tempted to trade-in PSP for a Vita, though I wasn't nearly as attached to that system as I was PS2.
No problem. That's why I cling to my Dreamcast and why I modded my Xbox1 to play all the classic systems 🙂
I still miss my PS1 and almost all games, like till forever, that was a damn good console.
I have worked at GS for 4 years now, and when it comes to trades, you get 20% less in cash than in credit, before ANY promotions. So you would get significantly less in cash.
When it comes to retro gaming, I love it. I would never get rid of my collection of my NES and 278 games for it. Also love my SNES with all the FFs and Super Metroid. Still working on getting a copy of Crono Trigger. By the way, my avatar was from a few months ago when I only had about 150 games.
OH, that's a stack of games? Couldn't really tell.
doesnt do me any good in canada 🙁
Do they have to work? Got a YLOD PS3 sitting in its box.
Whats the best way to get rid of your account info when you sell a system?
Deactivate the system for Games and Video, then boot into the recovery menu and do the complete reset option to return the system to it's default condition – no accounts, no content, no nothing.
The deactivation makes sure you don't lose an activation – remember you can only have 2 systems activated for a downloaded game now. The reset should remove your accounts and return the system to an 'empty' state.
If you fail to deactivate the system before selling it, you can use the Sony Entertainment Network main website to deactivate all PS3s on your account. You'll need to reactivate any PS3 you still use, but the one you sold will at least be deactivated.
@Highlander thanks for the info.
I'm just curious, does the system have to work to be tradable? will they take anything?
I'm sure it has to work. They usually test them, I think.
Ya, my friend returned a Wii a few years ago and they hooked it up to this itty bitty TV to make sure it worked.
Might take advantage of this… I really want the new slim PS3 model.
Let me re-phrase that: I really want a bigger HDD.
Then save yourself some money and buy a 500gig HD for $60 or a $750 for $100. Whatever you do, don't do business with GameStop.
Wonder If I can trick them into a 20GB 360 that just happens to be red ringed. And has no HDMI
nah nothing is a good deal if the store name is gamestop 🙂
FYI,
GS test's each trade-in console right when you bring it in, so don't bother trying to take them any non-working stuff.
