Yaiba Is A Ninja Gaiden Spin-Off, In Which Ryu Must Die

That Yaiba game looks pretty slick , doesn't it?

But there's something you probably didn't know… During a Tecmo Koei media event prior to the start of the Tokyo Game Show, former Capcom executive and Comcept founder Keiji Inafune shared some new details .

The full title is actually Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z . Yep, that's right, this is technically a spin-off, and the project is a joint venture between Comcept, Team Ninja, and Spark Unlimited ( Legendary , Lost Planet 3 ). Interestingly enough, the main character, Yaiba, must hunt down and kill the master Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu. Evidently, the adventure will include "ninjas, zombies and samurai," which is kinda like a triple whammy for action aficionados.

We still don't know about targeted platforms and there is no estimated release window. But Ninja Gaiden 3 didn't really turn out well, so we're hoping this spin-off can resurrect our love for the esteemed franchise.

bah
Cell shading is a turn off. Keiji's involvement is more of a turn-off. Sorry Keiji, I liked Mega Man and Onimusha well enough but I think your best days are behind you.

Shhh…yes, tis true. Even freakin' turtle ninjas. I watched the movie in the theatres as a kid, played the arcade, dissappointed by the nintendo port, made happy again by the Genesis version, had the hots for April…

I must say, the cel-shaded style and over the top bad-assery shown in the trailer has got me interested.

If the game is anything like the trailer, I might actually try this one out! I liked Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360, the Sigma version on PS3 was great, but shame they had to edit out most of the violence. Just didn't quite feel right.

I didn't even bother with Ninja Gaiden III, based on reviews and other friends' opinions.

Yaiba does look pretty awesome! Hopefully they'll finally figure out that camera, have some awesome massive bosses and mix up the gameplay with heaps of different types of enemies. Bayonetta was certainly great at that! I might just have to get a WiiU after all for that sequel.

Get NG3 on the cheap at least. If you liked Shinobi, Vanquish, and NG2, it's very much an amalgam of the three, except with an online component in the place of any exploration.

I'm interested: slashing, cel-shading, ninjas 😀

At the same time, Spark Unlimited aren't exactly the best developer going, or close to it for that matter. I'll keep an eye on it.

We just gotta hope Infune has a solid enough vision and can whip the team into shape.

So, either not cointuity based if you succeed, or you must by defualt lsoe. Or, is Ryu being phased out of the series entirely?
