Beyond Good & Evil 2 Has Reached The “Action Creation Stage”

Oh, goody.

That's really all I can say. We were all worried that Beyond Good & Evil 2 had either been scrapped or, at the very least, put on the back burner. Ubisoft kept saying it was still in the works, but they were always annoyingly vague.

Now, we've got some encouraging update details from renowned designer Michel Ancel. In speaking during an interview at the Toulouse Game Show in France (as reported by Gameranx ), the Rayman creator said the long-awaited sequel is in "an action creation stage" at the present time," and their goal is to make it as good as humanly possible. He adds that it's a very ambitious title and talks about other games that have served as inspiration:

" …we have a different approach to the first person perspective that Mirror's Edge has. Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed are closer to what we have in mind with the control of the character in a third person perspective.

We use a very dynamic camera that shakes a lot during the action to add life to the camera giving the impression of an action news cover team following Jade. Maybe that could be similar to Mirror's Edge but the game itself is very different."

Interesting. We just know we wanna see some gameplay, which we've been pining for ever since seeing the debut trailer way back in 2008. In the meantime, if you're not familiar with the original, we highly recommend grabbing the high-definition remake on the PlayStation Store. It's well worth your time and money.

Loved the first one. It was so charming and had wonderful characters and gameplay.

I'm glad it's still being worked on.

It really is a big undertaking considering all the colorful life and varied gameplay in the first game. Games tend to be colorless, lifeless, and single-minded in their gameplay this gen unless they are aimed at kids; I've got high hopes for this.

Take a year off of Assassin's Creed if you have to, just get it done!

Not gonna happen. Ancel has said that he want the BG&E2 team to remain small to maintain creative integrity.
*shrugs*

That's a bit of a bummer as it means it will take a long time. I'd give a small group creative control over a larger team. But I know they are all on AC3RXYZ so…

too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the dish.
hes right the team needs to stay small to avoid too many creative ideas conflicting.
id much rather this bake at 100 degrees for 5 years than 500 degrees for 1 year.
the original was so creative and artistic we cant afford to see this rushed!
this is the one and only game ill say take your sweet time too!

Unfortunately, Ancel still seems to be harping on wanting more powerful consoles first. So, as much as I want BG&E2, don't expect this before PS4.

Personally, I'd want to tell him to suck it up and make the best game you can at the moment, like everyone else; eight years is enough waiting; save your uber-game for BG&E3. But then I'm not a developer, am I?

sure ancel, sure.
sorry dude but this is one of those games that has gone in, out, in, out, in, out, so ill believe it when i see it!
it will come out eventually the developers, publishers want it so badly, and the fans do too.
so its not a matter of if, but when!
especially with the cries that he needs more powerful hardware.
well make it a PC exclusive, problem solved!
