Final Fantasy X HD Just A Visual Upgrade

Remake or remaster? Or something else? What the heck is Square Enix doing with Final Fantasy X ?

After the announcement at last year's Tokyo Game Show, the fans got to talking…and worrying. If one of their favorite games was simply going to receive a high-definition upgrade like many other PS2 titles this generation, fine. But if it was more involved; if it was a "remake" in every sense of the word, how might Square Enix mess with the gameplay and other elements?

Well, don't lose any sleep over it. During an interview at the Taipei Game Show and as cited at AnalogHype , Square Enix boss Shinji Hashimoto confirmed that Final Fantasy X HD would be exactly what it sounds like: a remastered version of the original title. So now we don't have to march on Square Enix headquarters with torches and pitchforks.

Thank God…that's a long plane ride.

No remake, that would be too much work for SE.

It seems like doing ANYTHING is "too much work" for Squenix.

That's good to know. I can now relax knowing that Yuna won't bust out into a pop song every time she's doing a sending.

Wow. I'm surprised to tell you the truth. I've actually become accustomed to Square-Enix making changes that are unpopular.

SE should remaster every single FF up to FF12, and this is all the glory they had and that was when Sakaguchi left the company as the vice executive president.

Ahh man. Don't diss the 12. It was so, vast and fun. Playful and mysterious and dark at times.

Good title.

Hahahha. Check this out. Much, more of an RPG that 13 eh? xD C'mon. 13's old now. We can stop being fans and be sensible =) Good gaming to y'all.

If it's trophy supported I'm all in. In fact if they make all their old games trophy supported on PS3 and whatever comes later, it'd be a fantasy coming true.

IGN asked the same question…

I never imagined for a second Square-Enix had the intention of "remaking" the game from scratch. That would be absurd.

My question though is, will they simply upscale the resolution or will they give us a 'Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary' "remake" in the sense of better textures, resolution, features, etc.?

After all the wait, I'd be disappointed if now they're simply upscaling the resolution to 1080p with 60fps. If they decide that route then why not just realize an HD collection instead of one game?

I'm not sure if people understand that remaking the whole game would mean dedicating one of their main teams to the game. If so, the game would've been far more marketed by now….Or it would take them another 5 years to release it.

Though, what I've been hoping for is a complete visual make-over. New character models, higher-res textures, new animations, etc. That would be really pretty.
Final Fantasy X is my favorite FF (yeah, you read me), so I can't wait for this remastering regardless. 🙂

I agree. That would be a very welcome addition.

As for me, this is my most anticipated game of the year. ;p Which is a little sad, I know, as it's a re-release.

I never played X but I'm looking forward to it in HD. Thank god they're not messing with it, I don't think too many people would want the folks who made XIII and XIV trying to "improve" anything.
