Remember when Game Informer Editor-in-Chief Andy McNamara teased an upcoming announcement by saying the developer of said title will surprise a lot of people ?
He also said that "not many will see this one coming," which immediately generated plenty of buzzing in communities and forums around the web. Now, to add more fuel to the fire, Game Informer editor Andrew Reiner posted the following hint on his Twitter page :
"Our next cover is another ‘what the?’ type of reveal. I suspect old school gamers will freak out over this one."
Some rumors say the secret game is Star Wars: Battlefront III , but that's only one of multiple suggestions you can find from interested gamers. We'd love to know what it is; obviously, it's a big project from a well-known developer, and we have to assume the title will hit store shelves some time this year. The good news is we won't have long to wait: the next cover of GI will be revealed on January 5, so just be patient for a few days.
In the meantime, what are your ideas? What do you think it could be? We've seen quite a few old-school franchises draw fresh breath this generation; what series haven't we seen in a while?
I would mess my panties if it was battlefront 3…
Heavenly Sword 2 by Sony Santa Monica. I know it's a pipe dream.
…that's not old-school. 🙂
Sounds right up my alley since I'm an old-school gamer. Battlefront III would be nice, but so would any number of other things. Can't wait to see.
But this whole "announcing announcements of announcements" thing is getting old, hmm?
C'mon Backstreet Brawler 2…
I think you mean "Bad Street Brawler."
😉
When I here "old school" gaming, I think of all those arcade games I used to play. You know, Pac Man, Frogger, etc…
Elite 4
Well, that would be my dream, or perhaps Privateer 3 would be a close 2nd place.
Yeah that would be utterly awesome. We really need one of those kind of games.
Exactly, it;'s been so long since a game like Elite or Privateer arrived. That mix of space combat, space trading & almost RPG like ship/character development. I always wanted to be able to take my pilot & crew ashore on the planets and have adventures there too. Make it a full blown RPG by taking the game onto the planet's surface and beyond the cockpit. I am *so* there, and then take it online into MMORPG territory with online play. I'd prefer co-op, but I suspect the majority would want PVP as well, so I'll settle for both modes.
Bully 2???
The Unholy War!… yeah right.
Star Wars: Battlefront III = old school ??? That just don t feel right to me .
Respawn Entertainment developing Crash N' The Boys Street Challenge?
Battlefront 3?
Insomniac developing Fire Pro Wrestling?
Bungie developing Contra?
Quantic Dreams developing Overblood 3?
Rockstar developing Pacman: Rabid Cannibals Edition?
Infinity Ward developing the next Kings Quest?
Rare developing a modern Asteroids?
EA Sports developing Double Dragon?
DICE developing FZERO?
ND finally bought the rights back to crash bandicoot and am doing a whole new series, and a HD remake of the first 4 games!
There was 5 on PS1. Why not all 5?
They bought it back? Nice!
So, it's an "old-school" (wonder how old their idea of old is) reboot that we can probably guess, but the developer will surprise us (very likely in a good way). So, think of a game series that has been on hiatus for a while, attach it to a developer that has proven themselves in a modern genre that could easily be attached to it and voila, answers abound.
My guess is Professor Plum in the Library with the Candlestick.
Wait, wrong game. I'll say a new Clock Tower by Frictional (the developers of Amnesia), just because I want me a really good psychological horror game on mah PS3! Then again, maybe Double Fine is working on another big release. PLEASE!?!
Descent 4? Oh crap, what was the space shooter for the PS1 that is escaping my memory right now? There were two of em two my knowledge. Oh crap, it's driving me nuts. Can anyone help me think of it? 1st person view. Reminded me a tad of x-wing vs. tie fighter. Ben…..or anyone……any idea what it was called? There were a bunch of different weapon types. Lasers to bring down sheilds and such. Awwww nuts.
Baldur's Gate III
If only they made one that used the exact same gameplay, and not hack/slash
A new Crash Bandicoot developed by Naughty Dog 😀
I'd like a new Contra game. That would be so cool.
… But is it an old-school title or old-school gameplay? That's not clear is it? So it could theoretically then be a new IP with an old-school vibe/game mechanics… Created by a well known developer.
Persona 5 anyone? I know atlus has been teasing us with promises of a game we all want, and the series is fairly oldschool
ROAD RASH!
What have Criterion been working on recently?
A sequel to Cybernator would be pretty great.
The Legend of Dragoon!. One can dream…
Although Star Wars: Battlefront 3 would be Awesome too!
eternal darkness 2?? that would rock
I hate to be the pessimist but I'm getting ready for a big letdown.
It's not like it's gonna be a FF6,7,8 or 9 remake right?
Remember Golden Axe was one of the last ones like this…
B-17 Bomber with voice module? FLAK FLAK FLAK
How about Road Rash???
it's X-com…but we already knew last year that it was coming
Man that game look like it s gonna be a big letdown . The aliens in that game don t look like a fun species to fight against .I ll try it for sure but i m not gonna put my hopes up .
At least i m happy they kept the research stuff .
