Gretzky NHL ’06 Skates To Retail

It seemed like just weeks ago that only a few games were coming out each week. Now it feels like a few games a day. The latest game to hit stores is Sony's first party hockey game, Gretzky NHL '06. The game incorporates the new NHL rules, a new Wayne vs. Wayne Mode, AHL teams with licensed AHL players, and many more enhancements over last year's game.

"Gretzky NHL '06 offers hockey fans unique opportunities to get in and mix it up with the greatest player to ever take to the ice," said Sharon Shapiro, senior director, promotions and sports product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Combine that with all the finer details and nuances of the game, along with multiple gameplay options, Gretzky NHL '06 will provide users with the ultimate hockey experience."

More than ever, Gretzky will play a large role in the game as it includes "Wayne vs. Wayne Mode", where gamers have the chance to skate six-on-five with "The Great One" himself. By playing smart hockey, gamers can earn "99 Time," where Gretzky will become a temporary teammate. There are also all-new player models and player faces, arena-specific game intros and goal horns, and more than 2,500 animations captured utilizing professional hockey players.

A PSP version of the game will be available this October. We'll have reviews of all of this year's hockey games soon, so be sure to check back.
