Poker Craze Hits Consoles

If you've always wanted to get in on the poker craze, but don't have any friends, or you just don't want to lose money; you'll be happy to know that Crave Entertainment has released World Championship Poker. The game is shipping now for the PS2 and GBA, and it will be available this holiday season for the Xbox.

“Poker has become the latest obsession,” said Vincent Bitetti, president, Crave Entertainment Inc. “Type the word “poker” in a search engine and more than 67 million websites emerge ready to inform, entertain, tutor or take ones money all in the name of poker. We’ve created World Championship Poker to satisfy this age-old drive to outsmart, outwit and out gamble one’s opponent.”

The game features 12 World Championship Poker games including: Texas Hold'em, Omaha Hold'em, Seven-Card Stud, Five-Card Draw and Pineapple. Players may advance their skills in “Career Mode” as they play their way through over 50 poker tournaments.

WCP also features poker tutorials and six tournament locations, ranging from a tropical island to a Mississippi riverboat. Players can compete and voice chat online via “GameSpy” for PlayStation 2 and via Xbox Live.

Exclusive to the PlayStation 2 version of World Championship Poker is support for the EyeToy USB Camera, which allows you to see your online opponents, as well as allowing them to see you. Text chat is supported as well.
