Sony Announces PlayStation Experience Will Not Happen in 2018

While platforms like Nintendo and Xbox are tossing announcements left and right in the ways of directs and XO, Sony isn’t going to be hosting its PlayStation Experience event this year. Despite the hits that have released on PlayStation this year and the upcoming titles, they don’t have enough to keep up with their fans’ expectations.

“Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down in 2019 to games like Dreams and Days Gone,” Shawn Layden, Sony Interactive America’s head said on the PlayStation Blogcast. “We wouldn’t have enough to bring people altogether in some location in North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it.”

Was this a disappointing announcement to you? Were you excited for PlayStation Experience?

PSXE Poll Update: Not Many Want Just Cause, Rainbow Six

Two pretty big titles released last week but according to the results of our latest poll, not many of our readers were interested.

With both Just Cause 3 and Rainbow Six Siege launching, we wanted to know which of these games you planned to get. Well, as it turns out, most of you planned to get…neither.

While there were more votes for the bombastic Just Cause 3 , the majority of participants said that neither title interested them. Perhaps everyone is still too busy playing catch-up after another busy year, or maybe these are two adventures that simply don't appeal to our readers. We've been hearing some pretty good things about both, though, so you might want to add 'em to your holiday wish list.

This week, the question should be obvious: What did you think of the PlayStation Experience this year? We got several new PS4 exclusive announcements ( Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom , Ni-Oh and Ace Combat 7 ) along with that much-discussed Final Fantasy VII Remake gameplay . So, what did you think?

Treyarch Talks “Potential Of AI” At The PlayStation Experience

The various panel discussions and presentations scheduled for this week's PlayStation Experience sound awfully intriguing.

Yesterday, we learned about one that will focus on the future of VR gaming and now, Treyarch has stepped forward with its presentation: " Call of Duty: Black Ops III : Unlocking the Potential of AI."

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , studio members will talk about the "fundamentals of artificial intelligence" and how it will help shape the future of our industry. The team will also discuss how they had to "completely overhaul" the AI in Black Ops III for the four-player co-op campaign. Speakers include:

The PlayStation Experience kicks off on December 5 and this particular panel will begin on that day at 4 p.m. PST at the Moscone West Hall, third floor. If you can't be in San Francisco for the event, you can catch it livestreamed on Twitch.

PlayStation Collectible Cards Will Be Revealed In December

Are you a card collector at heart?

If so, and you also plan on attending a certain big event next month, you'll be excited to start a brand new collection in December.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog , new PlayStation Collectible Cards will soon make their auspicious debut. Sony intends to release the first 35 during the upcoming PlayStation Experience event in December, and you're welcome to try to collect 'em all. Bear in mind that there are common and rare versions of certain cards so if you want every last one, there will actually be 66 to nab.

You get these cards by playing games at the PlayStation Experience and by doing a little digging around the show floor. Sony is also teasing "another, secret layer to this collectible game" that they're not about to reveal just yet. And by the way, once all the cards are gone, they're gone. That's it.

I wonder if the cards will become accessible in other ways after the event…

Sony’s TGS Was Lame, Perhaps They’re Waiting Until December?

"Lame" is the only word I can think of concerning Sony's Tokyo Game Show 2015 press conference.

I mean, it wasn't terrible and maybe we're all spoiled after that historic E3 presentation that included a trio of unbelievable news ( Final Fantasy VII Remake , Shenmue 3 and the return of The Last Guardian ). And those were hardly the only highlights.

But even so, when I think the best Sony news from TGS 2015 is the announcement of a new Hot Shots Golf for PlayStation 4, something is seriously amiss. Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 6 are cool, too, but we don't even know when these games are coming to North America. We needed some fireworks that we did not get at TGS and I'm guessing Sony is holding off until the PlayStation Experience in December.

Maybe that's when we'll see Gran Turismo 7 and a new God of War , or perhaps Quantic Dream will finally tell us exactly what the hell they're working on. Whatever it is, I'm hoping it'll be a darn sight more intriguing than TGS 2015.

PlayStation Experience 2015 Confirmed, Expect “Surprises”

It used to be that not much happened in December in the video game industry.

Sony changed all that last year with the wildly successful PlayStation Experience, and it's no surprise to see them announce a 2015 edition in San Francisco .

This year's event will be held between December 5 and 6 and as you can see, they've moved from Las Vegas to San Francisco's Convention Center. Attendees can sample "2016's biggest games" on the show floor (even though we don't have a list), and Sony promises a few "patented PlayStation surprises." Last year, we got several big announcements and laid eyes on a ton of great titles; we expect nothing less in 2015!

Tickets will be a little cheaper, too: Those who register before September 20 can purchase a two-day pass for $60 (while supplies last). After that, the price for a 2-day pass rises to $75, but that's less than the $90 Sony charged last year. One-day tickets will cost $45 for Saturday and $40 for Sunday, as opposed to the $50 charged for both days in 2014. You can even snag a special Capcom Cup VIP package, featuring front-area seating, a Capcom goodie bag, and access to the Capcom Cup after-party.

Yeah, they're holding a massive Street Fighter V tournament with a huge $250,000 prize pool. Gonna enter? Or maybe you just want to go watch. Either way, expect some fireworks from Sony before the year is out, and you can grab your tickets by visiting the PlayStation Experience website .
