Metal Gear Solid V Playable For The First Time At Gamescom

As we get closer and closer to launch, Konami is prepared to let players go hands-on.

During next month's annual Gamescom event, which takes places in Cologne between August 7 and 9, the publisher will unsurprisingly show off Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain .

But it will also be playable for the very first time, along with the upcoming PES 2016 , and Konami says both titles "represent huge advances in the action and sport genres." As per the description in the press release:

"A huge, open world setting sees the series’ famed sneaking elements greatly expanded, while a host of new characters – both allies and enemies – tell a story driven by revenge as franchise protagonist Big Boss enters a series of battlefields following the deaths of his colleagues. METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN is brought to vivid life with realistic weather patterns and day/night cycles. Thus, players can adapt their tactics to match the changing environment, creating an intuitive and non-linear gameplay experience."

MGSV is set to release on September 1, which isn't that far off now. Can we hear the cries of "GotY 2015!" already…?

New 30-Minute MGSV Gameplay Trailer: Snake’s Rocket Arm

As previously promised, publisher Konami has released a new gameplay video for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain .

It's in Japanese but you get over a half-hour of footage from a mission called "A Hero's Way." Here, Snake must take down a Spetsnaz commander and he'll have the help of Quiet and a sniper.

There's a fair amount of stealth action but then there's the part where Snake fires a rocket-powered arm and guides it through a base before using it to slam into an enemy soldier. Snake's never had a rocket arm feature before, although it did show up in Peace Walker when Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zadornov fired his prosthetic arm at Big Boss.

Options abound! Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch on September 1 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

MGSV Date Prematurely Announced: September 1, 2015

Update: Konami has just officially confirmed via press release that this date is correct.

Original Story:

You just can't keep a lid on these things.

A few days ago, Konami posted a countdown clock on the official MGSV website. Many thought the anticipated reveal would be a finalized release date.

Well, the clock hasn't finished counting down yet but IGN may have already leaked that date. The video in question is gone now but a NeoGAF member spotted it and gave us a screen capture: As you can see, it says Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch worldwide on September 1, 2015. That sounds about right, don't you think?

If you want a sample of the game and haven't tried it yet, there's always Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes . The Phantom Pain will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Modder Gives Ground Zeroes An Intense First-Person View

Ever wonder what Metal Gear Solid would look like as a FPS?

Well, Konami will probably never indulge you, but one ambitious gamer has given a first-person view to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes .

As found by Eurogamer , modder "Pao" has created quite the new experience. YouTuber BenBlatcher has some comments about it, too:

"Not being able to see what's round corners makes things much more tense, and you've gotta be really careful and try and get a good view on things beforehand. You've got to rely on your senses a lot more, and it's obvious I wasn't [For example not hearing a truck coming at one point.]"

There are a few problems, of course, but otherwise, it's a pretty cool presentation. Would you like to play MGS this way? Did the new first-person viewpoint in Grand Theft Auto V convince you?

Check Out Snake’s New Ally In MGSV: A Wolf Named DD

Even the legendary Solid Snake needs some help saving the world.

That's why he'll be able to call in various support partners in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain , including the recently revealed silent assassin named Quiet.

Now, Konami has revealed a new support ally: It's a wolf named Diamond Dog, or "DD." In this new Tokyo Game Show footage, we see the origins of this interesting partnership, although we're not sure what happened to wolf's eye. At any event, he should be a very helpful partner when out in the bush; DD has a variety of useful skills and he could be a perfect companion for the stealthy hunter.

MGSV is slated to arrive some time next year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

TGS 2014: 20 Min. MGSV Trailer Boasts Snake, Quiet

Hideo Kojima promised we'd see a lot more of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain at the Tokyo Game Show.

Well, he was right: Here's a gameplay trailer that offers 20 minutes of diverse, entertaining footage. Both Solid Snake and new partner Quiet (the scantily clad, light-stepping soldier) are involved in the action here, and we get a great look at the environment.

It appears to be quite large, certainly larger than any previous entry in the series, and Snake has a wide array of weapons and nifty gadgets. There's also some destructability as well, as we see Snake destroy a bridge with a grenade launcher. Sure, there's a lot of standing around while the Japanese commentary runs but you still see plenty.
