You Can’t Use Far Cry 4’s Map Editor For Multiplayer Levels

Sorry, looks like the map-making fans will have to wait a bit.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the map editor in Far Cry 4 will not support competitive multiplayer levels when the anticipated sequel launches next week.

The news first appeared in the Ubisoft forums and since director Alex Hutchinson clarified on Twitter , there has been an outpouring of disappointment. Unfortunately, this feature just wasn't high enough on the priority list, as Hutchinson wrote:

"I direct the game but I don't set budgets or timelines. We always squeeze in as much as we can, but we're always prioritizing."

He did say they're going to "keep supporting the game" so multiplayer map-making support could be an option in the future. But Hutchinson makes "no promises" and adds that there are "millions of players" who only focus on the campaign. For Far Cry , that's probably true, but it's still upsetting to the more creative-minded map designers out there.

Far Cry 4 Multiplayer Trailer Shows Off Variety, Depth

The campaigns in Far Cry have always been the focal point.

That probably won't change with the new installment, but it'd be a mistake to discount the multiplayer. The designers have said multiple times they've worked very hard to create a fully robust and enjoyable set of multiplayer modes.

To drive home that point, here's a new "Battles of Kyrat" multiplayer trailer that shows off many of the mode's more promising features. There are three different modes: Outpost, where the Golden Path defends their outposts against the invading Rakshasa; Propaganda, where the Golden Path has to bomb three propaganda installations with the Rakshasa playing defense, and Demon Mask, where both sides fight to the death to obtain a mythical mask.

The multiplayer matches offer 5-on-5 action and they take about 20 minutes to play on average. There will be 10 maps available at launch, and we'll even get a map editor. See? Not bad, right?
