Beyond Good & Evil 2 “Targeting Next Generation”

In that Beyond Good & Evil 2 teaser trailer we saw a long ways back, the characters were just sort of sitting around. …now we know why.

They're just sitting there because they won't have to be doing anything any time soon. Despite Ubisoft's insistence that the game is still in development, it appears we won't be seeing the long-anticipated sequel this year, next year…or even the year after that. According to GamesIndustry.biz , designer Michel Ancel confirmed the project was still in the works, but sadly, it will miss this generation:

"It is still alive and we are very far [into] development so we can't go back now. We are targeting the next generation of consoles."

So there's a reason why we haven't heard anything concrete between the unveiling at Ubidays 2008 and now. It turns out that Ancel and Co. are currently cranking away on the new Rayman installment, which apparently requires an all-new engine and tools. Well, damn. And we thought if enough people downloaded the high-definition remake of Beyond Good & Evil , the sequel would happen sooner.

I had a feeling this was going to happen. We've got plenty to play anyway..

Maybe if UbiSoft stopped worrying about releasing dozens of Assassin's Creeds, PoPs and HD Collections we would've had this by now.

Don't different studios inside of Ubisoft work on these games? just asking, I don't know

Pretty much all of the Ubisoft studios work on different parts of the AC games. That's how they manage to get them out so quickly, but they do have individual studios that work on other projects. Last thing I read about BG&E2 was that it was being worked on by a team of (I think) eight people. No wonder they can't get the bloody thing out the gate.

The AC games are *paying* for the development of BG&E 2, so…no, it wouldn't.

That the game exists at all, given how poorly the first sold, is a reason to *praise* Ubisoft.

Did you even buy BG&E? I did.

Exactly. They're determined to run that franchise into the ground. Madden syndrome I call it

Well… considering the 'next generation' starts next year with the WiiU, it may be sooner than we all think. Too hopeful?

Too optimistic, Wii U is more like this gen.

"…and we are very far [into] development…" If they are so far, why another 3-4 years? they-are-lying.

exactly, either they're not that far into development, or they know something we don't in terms of when the next gen consoles will arrive…
